There is no fixed upload time: YouTube says a video upload can take anywhere from a few minutes to several hours. For a useful estimate, divide the file size by the sustained upload speed available on the network you will use, then allow extra time for YouTube to process the video. Uploading a prerecorded file for a 24/7 stream is different from sending a continuous live feed from an encoder.
Estimate the transfer time for a prerecorded video
The transfer estimate depends mainly on the file size and your real upstream bandwidth. Check the video’s size and measure upload speed on the actual connection you plan to use; advertised download speed does not tell you how quickly you can send a file.
As a rough calculation, convert the file size to megabits and divide by the sustained upload rate in megabits per second. Divide the result by 3,600 to get hours. For example, a 1 GB file is about 8,000 megabits; at a sustained 10 Mbps upload rate, the ideal transfer time is about 13 minutes. Real uploads can take longer because of connection variability, congestion, and other traffic. Treat this as an estimate, not a completion-time promise.
YouTube identifies file type and format, traffic volume, internet connection, video quality, and frame rate among factors that can affect upload or processing time. Its guidance says uploading can take from a few minutes to several hours, a broad range rather than a prediction for any particular file. YouTube Help: Video stuck during upload
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
What can make the transfer slower?
- A large file: More data takes longer to send. Higher quality and frame rates often produce larger files.
- Limited or variable upload capacity: A speed test on the intended network gives a more useful reference than the download speed shown in an internet plan.
- Network congestion: Other devices or busy periods can reduce the bandwidth available to the upload; ISP traffic can also affect speed.
- Wi-Fi trouble: If wireless signal or interference is the bottleneck, try a wired connection. Ethernet cannot increase the upload capacity supplied by your ISP.
Allow separate time for YouTube processing
The file transfer and YouTube’s processing are separate stages. YouTube can make a low-quality playback version available first while higher resolutions continue processing. A video appearing in Studio or playing at low resolution does not necessarily mean its highest-quality version is ready. Upload early enough to check that the resolution you need is available before relying on the video in a continuous playback plan.
YouTube gives an example of up to four hours for high-resolution processing of a 60-minute 4K/30 fps video, and says 4K/60 fps takes longer. That is a processing example—not the file’s upload time, a typical-time statistic, or a guarantee for another video. YouTube Help: Low video quality after upload

Check the limits before uploading a long video
For a long prerecorded video, verify that the YouTube account is eligible before starting. YouTube says accounts must be verified to upload videos longer than 15 minutes. Its stated maximum is 256 GB or 12 hours, whichever is less. These are upload eligibility limits, not a guide to how long transfer or processing will take. YouTube Help: Upload videos longer than 15 minutes
If the upload stalls or the connection drops
First check whether YouTube is still processing or the transfer has actually stopped. A low-resolution playback option can appear while higher-quality processing continues. If the transfer is interrupted, YouTube says you can resume it from where it left off for up to 24 hours: return to the upload page and select the same file. If the network is unstable, try Ethernet if Wi-Fi is the local problem, pause competing uploads, or try again at a less congested time. YouTube Help: Video stuck during upload

A prerecorded loop is not the same as a live encoder feed
If by “24/7 stream” you mean a prerecorded video that will play continuously, the relevant upload estimate is based on file size and sustained upstream speed, followed by YouTube processing. If you mean a continuous live feed sent by an encoder, there is no ordinary file-transfer estimate: the encoder must continuously send data at a stable bitrate while the stream is live.
YouTube’s current live encoder guidance recommends testing upload bitrate and using RTMPS for live ingestion. For H.264, it lists recommended bitrates of 5–14 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps and 6–17 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps. Choose settings that match the encoder and available stable upload capacity; these are live-stream recommendations, not promises about how quickly a prerecorded file uploads. YouTube transcodes live streams into outputs for viewers on different devices and network conditions. YouTube Help: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions
