If YouTube has disabled live streaming on your channel, first read the restriction email and check YouTube Studio for the exact policy notice and any appeal option. A Community Guidelines strike is one possible cause, but not the only one: copyright matches, minors appearing without required adult presence, firearm-policy violations, or other restrictions can also affect live streaming. Appeal through the route shown in Studio when available, preserve the affected content while deciding, and do not use another channel to get around an active restriction.
Why YouTube may disable live streaming
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days to live stream. It also says it may restrict a creator’s ability to live stream at its discretion. A disabled feature does not necessarily mean you have a visible Community Guidelines strike: the notice may concern a removed or restricted stream, a copyright match, or another policy or account-level action.
- Community Guidelines enforcement: A warning or strike, including one resulting from a restricted live stream, may limit live-streaming access.
- Copyright: YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party material, including other live broadcasts. A match can trigger a warning, interruption, or termination.
- Minors: A stream featuring minors without the required adult presence can lead to restrictions.
- Other policy or feature actions: YouTube identifies firearm-policy violations and numerous videos with features disabled among possible restriction causes.
Use the policy and action named in your account’s notice to identify which case applies. The message and its stated end date are more useful than assuming every “live streaming disabled” message has the same cause or duration.
How to diagnose the restriction
- Read the email from YouTube. Find the affected stream or video, the policy cited, the action taken, and any end date or appeal instructions. YouTube says its restriction notification includes appeal instructions when it believes the creator has grounds to appeal.
- Open YouTube Studio and inspect the dashboard. Look for the Channel violations card and any notice or action attached to the affected content. Check for a warning, strike, copyright notice, or other restriction.
- Compare the notice with the live-stream eligibility display. Do not assume that a feature eligibility screen showing access means there is no restriction. A creator report has described a mismatch, but such community reports do not establish a general YouTube rule or a guaranteed remedy.
- Record what you see. Note the channel URL, when the restriction began, the exact on-screen message, and what Studio displays. Screenshots can help explain a mismatch if you contact an official support option available to your account.
How to appeal a visible Community Guidelines strike
If Studio shows a Community Guidelines warning or strike, YouTube’s published route is the Channel violations card in YouTube Studio. The appeal must be submitted using the Appeal control shown there.

- Open YouTube Studio and locate the Channel violations card.
- Select the relevant warning or strike and choose Appeal.
- Explain specifically why the enforcement appears mistaken, addressing the policy named in the notice and the content or context relevant to that policy.
- Submit the appeal and follow any status or outcome information YouTube provides in Studio or by email.
YouTube says warnings and strikes may be appealed within six months, and each strike can be appealed only once. Check the deadline and available control for the particular action in your account.
Keep the affected content while deciding
Do not delete the affected video as a way to remove a strike. YouTube says deleting it does not remove the strike and may mean you can no longer appeal that removal. Preserve the content while you review the notice and decide whether to appeal.

If there is no strike or Appeal button
Check the restriction email and all relevant Studio notices first. YouTube’s published guidance does not establish one universal, guaranteed appeal form for the case where there is no visible notice or Appeal control. Use official Help or support options available to your account, and describe the channel URL, restriction start date, exact error message, and what you see in Studio. You can include screenshots to clarify a mismatch, but YouTube does not promise that feedback will trigger a manual review or restore access.
Advice in Help Community discussions is user-generated, not an official policy or guarantee. If you contact support, ask what action is applied to the channel and whether an appeal route exists for that specific restriction; do not assume a particular outcome.

Copyright-specific checks
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content, including other live broadcasts. If it detects a match, it may display a placeholder and warn you to stop streaming the material. If the stream continues to include it, YouTube may interrupt or terminate the stream.
If you have a license for the material, check YouTube Studio for the copyright notice and contact the rights holder about adding your channel to its Content ID allowlist. A license by itself does not ensure the live stream will remain uninterrupted if the channel is not allowlisted.

Understand the different restriction timelines
These time periods apply to different YouTube rules and enforcement contexts; they are not interchangeable. Follow the specific end date and instructions in your account notice.

Because YouTube describes different consequences for different actions, a restriction should not be assumed to last one week, 14 days, or any other standard period unless that timing applies to the specific action. Use the account-specific notice to determine when access may return.

Do not bypass an active restriction
YouTube says a creator whose account is restricted from live streaming is prohibited from using another channel to live stream on YouTube. It warns that circumvention may result in termination. Do not switch to a second channel, or use someone else’s channel on your behalf, to keep streaming during the restriction.
