If your FFmpeg video reaches YouTube but has no sound, check the audio stream FFmpeg is sending before blaming your location. YouTube’s Live Control Room distinguishes missing audio from unsupported codecs, multiple audio streams, and channel or sample-rate problems. Its exact missing-audio warning is “Your encoder is sending no audio.” The official guidance reviewed here does not establish an India-specific cause.
Start with YouTube’s exact error
Open YouTube Live Control Room and note the precise audio warning and when it appears. YouTube treats these as different problems: no audio stream, multiple audio streams, unsupported audio codec, too many channels, and incorrect sample-rate or bitrate settings. Use the warning to choose what to inspect rather than changing several settings at once. YouTube’s live encoder troubleshooting guide describes these ingestion errors.
- “Your encoder is sending no audio”: verify that FFmpeg selected an audio stream and that the outgoing stream contains it.
- Codec, channel, sample-rate, or bitrate warning: check that specific output setting against YouTube’s supported guidance.
- Timeout or SSL error: investigate the connection and RTMP/RTMPS endpoint; a transport error is different from a connected stream that lacks audio.
Trace the audio from source to viewer
Check each stage in order: the input, FFmpeg’s selected audio stream, the encoded output, a local archive if you record one, and YouTube playback. YouTube recommends checking the encoder and local archive, as well as encoder errors and CPU load. This isolates whether the signal is absent before encoding, lost during FFmpeg processing, or impaired during delivery. YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance covers these checks.
- Listen to the source. Play the input file or monitor the capture source independently. If it is silent, fix the source or its capture path before changing YouTube settings.
- Check the audio stream FFmpeg selects. A file can contain video and audio while the output omits audio because the wrong input stream was selected or the mapping excludes it. Confirm the input and output stream choices in your FFmpeg command.
- Inspect the encoded output or local archive. If the source has sound but the local output does not, focus on stream selection, mapping, audio encoder options, FFmpeg errors, and CPU load.
- Compare with Live Control Room and viewer playback. If the local encoded output sounds right but the delivered stream does not, check YouTube’s status and then the outbound connection. Where practical, test playback on another device or network to rule out a local playback issue.
There is no universally correct FFmpeg mapping command without knowing the input’s streams and the intended output. Do not copy a generic command and assume its stream indexes match your file.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Use a simple supported audio configuration
For RTMP/RTMPS, YouTube lists AAC and MP3 as supported audio codecs. Send one audio stream and use mono or stereo; YouTube warns that multiple audio streams can cause ingestion problems and does not support more than two channels in this configuration. For stereo, YouTube recommends 44.1 kHz and 128 Kbps. These are recommendations, not proof that every other sample rate or bitrate causes silence. See YouTube’s troubleshooting page and its encoder settings guidance.
For diagnosis, first test one known-good audio stream with AAC or MP3 and the recommended stereo values if you are sending stereo. Once that works, reintroduce more complex routing or additional processing one change at a time.

Separate audio faults from RTMP/RTMPS connection faults
If FFmpeg cannot connect, times out, or reports an SSL problem, copy the current server URL from YouTube Live Control Room and verify that the encoder is using the matching protocol and server. For an RTMPS endpoint, make sure the encoder supports RTMPS. YouTube suggests trying port 443 if an SSL error persists. These steps address connection trouble; they do not restore an audio stream that FFmpeg is not sending. See YouTube’s RTMPS troubleshooting guidance.
If the encoder preview and local archive sound healthy but delivery is poor, check outbound upload capacity and network reliability, and contact your ISP if needed. YouTube recommends keeping 20% of upload bandwidth available beyond the total stream bitrate. That is network headroom advice, not a threshold that proves an audio-encoding fault. YouTube’s streaming tips provide its network recommendations.

Does being in India cause the missing audio?
The YouTube guidance cited here describes general encoder and network troubleshooting; it does not document an India-specific audio restriction or regional routing cause for this symptom. Do not assume that changing ingest region will fix it. Check the actual outbound connection and YouTube’s stream diagnostics instead. If the connection is established and YouTube reports no audio, prioritize the outgoing audio stream and its configuration.
Common symptoms and fixes
| What you see or hear | Likely area to check | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube says the encoder is sending no audio | Audio selection, mapping, or presence in encoded output | Check the source, FFmpeg stream selection, and local encoded output. |
| Source has sound but the local output is silent | FFmpeg mapping, audio encoder options, errors, or CPU load | Correct the output stream selection and inspect the encoder logs. |
| Warning mentions codec, channels, sample rate, or bitrate | Audio settings or stream count | Use one supported AAC or MP3 stream; keep to mono or stereo and test YouTube’s recommended stereo values. |
| Local archive sounds good but viewer delivery is poor | Outbound network or delivery path | Check upload capacity and reliability, Live Control Room status, and playback from another device or network. |
| FFmpeg times out or reports an SSL error | Server URL, protocol, RTMPS support, or port | Copy the current URL from Live Control Room, confirm protocol and server, and try port 443 for a persistent SSL error. |
