For a stream, use the Stream URL and stream key shown in YouTube Live Control Room; if your encoder supports it, choose the RTMPS URL. A geographically close server is not necessarily the best-performing route, so judge your connection by upload capacity and the stream’s observed health rather than by an unverified regional hostname.
Get the correct YouTube stream URL
- Open YouTube Live Control Room and select or create the stream you plan to use.
- Copy the Stream URL and stream key from that stream’s settings into your encoder. YouTube describes the key as information that tells the encoder where to send the feed and lets YouTube accept it. Treat it like a password: do not share it publicly.
- Use RTMPS when your encoder supports it. In the Stream URL field, click the lock icon to reveal the RTMPS URL, then copy the URL shown for your stream. Do not substitute a hostname found in a forum post or guess a server address.
YouTube’s instructions explain how to retrieve the URL and key, but do not document a manual control for selecting an Indian city or region. The official guidance reviewed also does not establish a city-to-server map or identify which Google location is nearest to any particular Indian viewer or broadcaster. Interface labels may change, so follow the current fields in Live Control Room.
Why “nearest” may not mean most reliable
Geographic distance alone does not describe the full path from your encoder to YouTube. Upload capacity, reliability, and traffic on a shared connection can affect whether the encoder delivers a steady feed. YouTube notes that download speed is often higher than upload speed and recommends leaving 20% upload-bandwidth headroom, while accounting for both primary and backup stream bitrates. That is guidance, not a guarantee of performance on a particular Indian ISP or route.
Measure outbound upload speed and test at a time and under network conditions representative of your actual stream. If several people or devices share the connection, their traffic can reduce the capacity available to the encoder. YouTube recommends a reliable connection, preflight testing, and monitoring stream health and messages during the event.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Choose a protocol based on your encoder and needs
| Protocol | When to use it | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| RTMPS | Use the RTMPS URL revealed in Live Control Room if your encoder supports it. YouTube recommends RTMPS in its encoder guidance. | It is RTMP over TLS/SSL and encrypts the connection. It is not evidence of a geographically nearer route. |
| HLS | Use it when your encoder or use case requires HLS capabilities described by YouTube; configure the HLS stream key, URL, and segment settings specified for that stream. | HLS uses segmented delivery and has higher latency than continuous RTMP, according to YouTube. It does not establish that the ingest server is closer. |
These are protocol choices, not documented Indian server-region choices. Prefer the protocol your encoder supports and your workflow requires.
Set encoder bitrate and video parameters
For RTMP or RTMPS, YouTube lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 support, up to 60 fps, constant bitrate (CBR), and a recommended two-second keyframe interval that should not exceed four seconds. Confirm the current settings on YouTube’s live encoder guidance before publishing; recommendations can change.

- 4K HDMI Display: Enhance your visual experience with a hub capable of delivering 4K resolution at 30Hz in both mirror and extend modes. Please note that this hub is compatible with MacBook (macOS 12 and newer), Windows 10 and 11, ChromeOS, and laptops equipped with DP Alt Mode and Power Delivery. Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Bitrate must fit the available upload capacity with room for variation. YouTube’s published examples for H.264 are:
| Output | Minimum bitrate | Recommended bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| 1080p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 6 Mbps | 17 Mbps |
These are YouTube’s ingest bitrate recommendations, not upload-speed guarantees. A speed test result is not a promise that the connection can sustain the same rate throughout a live event. Leave the recommended headroom and test with the actual resolution, frame rate, encoder, and network you plan to use.

Run a useful preflight test
- Set the encoder to the intended codec, resolution, frame rate, bitrate, CBR mode, and keyframe interval.
- Connect using the URL and key from the stream’s Live Control Room settings. For RTMPS, confirm you copied the URL revealed by the lock control.
- Test with representative motion and audio, not a static screen alone, and use the network under realistic household or workplace load.
- Preview the stream and monitor YouTube’s stream-health status and any review messages. Check that both audio and video are accessible and stable.
- If you compare different setups, record the URL shown by YouTube, encoder settings, network connection, test time, and observed health for each session. This makes the comparison useful without assuming YouTube offers a server-selection tool.
- If you use a backup encoder, test failover in advance and continue monitoring the live stream.
Troubleshoot RTMPS connection errors and instability
- SSL or timeout error: Verify that the stream URL is correct and begins with
rtmps, notrtmp. Check that the encoder supports RTMPS. If an SSL error persists, YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance suggests trying port 443; use the exact URL from Live Control Room rather than copying an example hostname. - Dropped frames or unstable stream: Check outbound upload speed during realistic network use, reduce encoder bitrate if it exceeds dependable capacity, and account for other users or devices sharing the connection. Keep upload headroom rather than setting bitrate equal to a speed-test result.
- Stream health warnings: Review YouTube’s messages, confirm the encoder settings against its current recommendations, and repeat a preflight test with representative audio and motion.
- Unclear whether distance is the cause: Do not infer a nearest server from an error or a regional hostname. The official guidance reviewed does not establish an India-specific location map or manual city selection. Compare sessions using the same recording and settings where practical, noting the connection and time as well as stream-health results.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep prerecorded video live on YouTube 24/7 rather than stream from a camera, StreamNeo is a cloud option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. StreamNeo loops uploaded videos, supports any quality up to 4K 60fps as uploaded at one flat price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. It streams to YouTube only, not from a live camera. See StreamNeo or its plans; check upload time before choosing a recording. Start your free first day with StreamNeo.
