YouTube Live Stream Settings for 1080p at 30 FPS

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For a 1080p, 30 fps YouTube live stream, use CBR, a 2-second keyframe interval, and a video bitrate matched to your codec: 14 Mbps for H.264 or 10 Mbps for AV1 or H.265/HEVC. YouTube’s listed minimums are 5 Mbps for H.264 and 4 Mbps for AV1/H.265. Leave roughly 20% upload-bandwidth headroom above the stream’s total bitrate, then test the complete setup before going live. These are YouTube live-ingest recommendations, checked against official YouTube Help guidance on October 3, 2026—not upload-video encoding targets.

Recommended YouTube settings for 1080p30

Use the row that matches the codec your encoder will actually send. YouTube’s recommendations differ by codec, so 14 Mbps is not a universal 1080p30 target.

Setting H.264 AV1 or H.265/HEVC
Resolution and frame rate 1080p at 30 fps 1080p at 30 fps
Recommended video bitrate 14 Mbps 10 Mbps
Listed minimum video bitrate 5 Mbps 4 Mbps
Bitrate mode CBR CBR
Keyframe interval 2 seconds recommended; do not exceed 4 seconds 2 seconds recommended; do not exceed 4 seconds

For either codec group, YouTube’s live encoder guidance also specifies RTMP or RTMPS, with RTMPS recommended; AAC or MP3 audio; 128 kbps recommended for stereo audio; Rec. 709 for SDR color; square pixels; and progressive scan. The bitrate figures above are for live ingestion, not YouTube’s separate upload-video encoding guidance. YouTube Help, accessed October 3, 2026, does not establish a controlled image-quality or hardware-performance winner among the listed codecs. Choose a codec your encoder and production workflow support.

How to set up an encoder stream

  1. Choose the output format. Set resolution to 1920 × 1080 and frame rate to 30 fps. Use the encoder’s progressive-scan option and square pixels; for SDR, select Rec. 709.
  2. Select a supported video codec. Choose H.264, H.265/HEVC, or AV1 if your encoder supports it and your workflow is compatible. Set the video bitrate to the recommendation for that codec: 14 Mbps for H.264, or 10 Mbps for AV1/H.265. You can use the listed minimum as a lower bound, not as the recommended target.
  3. Set rate control and keyframes. Choose CBR and a 2-second keyframe interval. Do not set the interval above 4 seconds.
  4. Configure audio and connection. Use AAC or MP3 audio; for stereo, set 128 kbps as YouTube’s recommended audio bitrate. Configure the encoder to send over RTMPS where available; RTMP is also listed as supported.
  5. Connect to YouTube Live Control Room. Use the stream key for the broadcast. YouTube’s default recommendation is to let it detect resolution and frame rate. If you need to select these manually, create a custom stream key and enable manual settings under Stream Resolution. Labels may vary as YouTube updates its interface.
  6. Rehearse and monitor. Test with audio and movement similar to the planned broadcast. Check YouTube’s stream health and messages during the event rather than assuming a successful connection means the stream will remain healthy.

How much upload speed should you have?

There is no single internet speed that guarantees a stable 1080p30 stream. Your available outbound upload capacity must exceed the stream’s total bitrate, including audio, and should have about 20% headroom. For example, a 14 Mbps H.264 video stream plus audio needs more than 14 Mbps of usable upload capacity; do not treat the video bitrate alone as the full connection requirement. Other devices or applications sharing the connection can reduce what is available to the encoder.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
  • Check outbound upload bandwidth at the location and time you plan to stream.
  • Leave approximately 20% capacity unused rather than setting the stream bitrate at the connection’s measured ceiling.
  • If capacity fluctuates or the connection is shared, reduce the stream quality or bitrate to fit the reliable capacity available.
  • A speed test and rehearsal can uncover problems, but neither guarantees uninterrupted service.

Choose latency and DVR for the event

Latency is the delay between capture by the camera or encoder and playback for viewers. Lower latency can make interaction feel more immediate, but may increase playback buffering. If the stream depends on live audience responses, faster response may matter; for a broadcast without interaction, there may be little reason to prioritize the lowest latency. DVR lets viewers pause, rewind, and resume a live stream. Decide whether that flexibility suits the event and audience rather than treating one latency or DVR choice as right for every stream.

Or let it run in the cloud

If your goal is to keep a YouTube channel live with a recording or playlist, StreamNeo is a different option from configuring a live encoder: it loops uploaded videos from the cloud rather than broadcasting a camera feed or a live encoder session. The steps are upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Your computer and home connection do not need to stay on. It plays uploads as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot regardless of quality; it can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo or start the free first day.

Common problems and what to check

  • Stream health warns about bitrate or connection: check that the configured bitrate matches the chosen codec, then check usable upload capacity and headroom. Reduce bitrate or quality if the connection cannot sustain the total stream bitrate.
  • Video looks unstable or buffers: check for an overloaded or inconsistent shared connection, and repeat a representative rehearsal. A faster headline speed-test result does not guarantee consistent capacity during the broadcast.
  • Keyframe or encoder configuration warning: set CBR and a 2-second keyframe interval, and ensure it does not exceed 4 seconds.
  • Manual resolution selection is unavailable: YouTube’s documented route is to create a custom stream key and enable manual settings under Stream Resolution; automatic detection is the default recommendation.
  • Viewers report delay or buffering: weigh the value of faster interaction against playback stability. Lower latency may increase buffering, so test the experience and choose according to the event’s interaction needs.

Copyright and channel eligibility still matter

Correct encoder settings do not grant rights to music, video, or other material in a broadcast, and they do not ensure a channel meets YouTube’s live-streaming or monetization requirements. Confirm that you have permission to use all included material and check YouTube’s current channel and live-stream rules before broadcasting. For pre-recorded loops, do not assume that keeping a stream online by itself makes the content eligible for monetization; platform decisions depend on YouTube’s applicable policies.
