How to Loop Real Estate Walkthrough Videos on YouTube Live

To loop a prerecorded property walkthrough on YouTube Live, add the video as a looping Media Source in OBS Studio, then send the OBS scene to a YouTube Live event. YouTube’s watch-page Loop control repeats playback for an individual viewer; it does not make a video into a live broadcast.

Before you start

  • An OBS-compatible local video file. OBS supports formats including MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF and WebM.
  • A YouTube channel eligible to livestream. YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-stream restrictions in the preceding 90 days, and the streamer must be at least 16.
  • Access to YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and its stream settings.
  • Permission to broadcast the walkthrough footage and every included audio track. YouTube’s general content rules apply; they do not determine whether you have permission to show a particular home, its occupants, or its music.

YouTube supports mobile, webcam and encoder approaches to going live. An encoder such as OBS is the appropriate fit when the broadcast needs to contain a prerecorded file in a composed scene. See YouTube’s live-streaming overview and live-streaming eligibility requirements.

Set up a single walkthrough to repeat in OBS

  1. Check the file and its repeat point. Open the local video and inspect both its audio and the transition from the end back to the beginning. A loop repeats the file; it does not smooth a cut or remove silence, so choose a source whose ending and opening work when played back-to-back.
  2. Create or select a scene. In OBS, use the Scenes panel to select an existing scene or add one for the property stream.
  3. Add the video. In the Sources panel, select + > Media Source, create a source, and choose the local video file in its properties.
  4. Enable looping. In the Media Source properties, turn on Loop. OBS defines this setting as whether the file plays again after playback completes. Fit the source to the scene, then use the preview to check framing and sound. The control is documented on the OBS Media Sources page.
  5. Check playback behavior. Let the file reach its end in a test and verify it starts again as intended. If the source is configured to stop when inactive, confirm that behavior suits your scene and broadcasting plan.

Use a playlist for several tours

If you want to rotate through multiple walkthroughs, use OBS’s VLC Video source instead of adding a separate single-file source for each tour. Add the files in the order you want, enable Loop Playlist, and preview the transitions. VLC must be installed for this source type to be available. OBS documents both source types and their looping controls on its Media Sources page.

OBS source Best for Loop setting Requirement
Media Source One walkthrough file Loop repeats the file after playback completes A local file supported by OBS
VLC Video A rotation of several files Loop Playlist repeats the playlist VLC installed and the files added to the playlist

Connect OBS to YouTube Live

  1. Create or open the event. In YouTube Studio, open Create > Go live to enter the Live Control Room. Create a stream or open the event you plan to use.
  2. Copy the stream details. In the event’s stream settings, obtain the stream URL and stream key. Treat the key like a password: anyone who has it may be able to send a feed to your event, so do not show it on screen or share it publicly.
  3. Configure OBS. Open Settings > Stream, select YouTube if available, and connect or enter the event’s stream details as prompted. YouTube recommends RTMPS, the secure extension of RTMP; choose YouTube RTMPS in OBS when it is available. See YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.
  4. Run a private preflight. Before a public broadcast, use an unlisted event or another suitable test arrangement. Start the OBS output and check the Live Control Room preview. Verify the picture fills the intended frame, the audio is correct, the loop transition is acceptable, and the video continues to arrive.
  5. Start the intended broadcast. Once the preview and stream health look right, set the event’s visibility as intended and start the live stream from the encoder. Check the watch page, including on a mobile device, and continue monitoring the video and audio.

Check bandwidth and stream health

YouTube recommends upload bandwidth with about 20% headroom beyond the total bitrate. For example, if the encoder sends a total bitrate of 6 Mbps, aim for roughly 7.2 Mbps or more of stable upload capacity. This is headroom guidance, not a guarantee: other devices, network congestion, and connection instability can still interrupt a stream. Monitor the Live Control Room’s stream health and confirm that OBS is sending video and audio throughout the broadcast. YouTube’s encoder setup guidance and live-streaming tips cover setup and preflight checks.

Plan for long broadcasts and replays

YouTube’s DVR feature lets viewers pause and resume a live stream, but rewind may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived and recommends keeping a local backup; a stream that exceeds 12 hours may not be captured at all. Do not promise viewers a complete replay or DVR rewind for an extra-long or continuous broadcast. See YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance and DVR guidance.

Troubleshoot common problems

  • The video plays once and stops. Open the Media Source properties and enable Loop. If you are using several files, check that you selected VLC Video and enabled Loop Playlist.
  • The source is blank or the wrong file appears. Reopen the source properties and verify the selected file and its location. If you moved or renamed it, point the source to the current file, then check the OBS preview again.
  • The picture is cropped or does not fill the scene. Select the source in the preview and adjust its fit or transform, then confirm the result at the intended output framing before going live.
  • The broadcast does not appear in YouTube’s preview. Confirm OBS is connected to the correct YouTube event and that the stream URL and key match its settings. Check that OBS is actively sending and review stream health in the Live Control Room.
  • The feed drops or becomes unstable. Check OBS’s connection and YouTube stream health, and make sure available upload capacity has the recommended headroom beyond the total bitrate. A stable connection is still necessary for an encoder-based broadcast.
  • Viewers report abrupt transitions or unwanted silence. Review the source file’s ending and opening, audio levels, and playlist order. Looping repeats what is in the files; it does not edit transitions.

Or let it run in the cloud

If you do not want a computer, OBS, or a home internet connection to stay on, StreamNeo runs an uploaded video or playlist from the cloud as a YouTube livestream. The setup is: upload the walkthrough, add your YouTube stream key once, then go live. It plays uploaded videos rather than broadcasting a camera feed.
