If multiple viewers lose the stream, investigate the creator’s encoder, upload connection and YouTube stream-health messages. If it stops only for you, check playback quality, your network, device or app, and the stream’s latency settings. The right fix depends on which side is failing.
Find out whether the broadcast or your playback is stopping
Ask another viewer to check the same radio livestream, ideally on a different device or network. You can also open it on another device or switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data. If several viewers experience the interruption at about the same time, focus on the creator’s stream. If only your playback pauses, start with your own connection and device.
This distinction narrows the problem; it does not prove a single cause. A stream can also be intentionally stopped or affected by restrictions or a platform issue. An exact error message, device and app, and whether other viewers are affected are useful clues.
If the livestream stops for multiple viewers
Check YouTube’s stream-health messages
For the creator, open YouTube Live Control Room and inspect stream health and any messages while broadcasting. YouTube advises monitoring these during the event. Messages can point to problems with the incoming signal rather than the listener’s device. Google’s Live Streaming API stream documentation describes health signals including bitrate and keyframe issues, though most creators will use the diagnostics shown in Live Control Room.

Compare upload capacity with the encoder settings
Run an upload speed test and compare the available, stable upload capacity with the encoder’s selected bitrate. Choose a quality the connection can sustain reliably; a higher resolution or frame rate is not useful if the upload cannot keep up. YouTube recommends testing the upload bitrate, testing before going live, and monitoring stream health. Test with audio and motion similar to the actual program, rather than relying only on a quiet or static test scene.
YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends RTMP or RTMPS, H.264, constant bitrate, and a keyframe interval of two seconds, not exceeding four seconds. Its H.264 recommendations include 10 Mbps for 1080p30 and 17 Mbps for 1080p60. Those figures are examples tied to those settings, not universal targets; consult YouTube’s live encoder settings for the relevant resolution, frame rate and codec.

Read warnings about bitrate, keyframes and incoming video
Encoder warnings may report bitrate that is too high or too low, a long GOP (group of pictures), keyframes that are too far apart, or insufficient incoming video. These can signal a configuration or delivery problem that interrupts smooth streaming. Correct the setting the warning identifies, then test again and watch the health indicators. Avoid changing several encoder settings at once; that makes it harder to tell which change helped.
Separate an ingest problem from downstream playback
If Live Control Room reports healthy input but viewers still report interruptions, ask whether the problem affects viewers on different networks and devices. A single affected listener points more toward local playback; reports from multiple viewers suggest a wider delivery issue, but do not by themselves establish its cause. YouTube’s diagnostics help assess the stream sent to the platform, but they cannot identify every downstream or platform-side interruption.

If only your playback keeps stopping
Try a different connection and playback quality
Switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data where available, then try the livestream again. Mobile data charges may apply. If the player offers a quality menu, choose a lower quality manually and see whether playback becomes steady. YouTube’s video playback troubleshooting includes these checks; the precise steps depend on whether you are watching on a computer, phone or TV.
Check the app, browser and device
Try another supported device if the interruption continues. On mobile, YouTube suggests clearing the app cache. On desktop, its guidance includes updating or restarting the browser or device and reducing open tabs. These steps are most useful when the same livestream works elsewhere or when other streams also have playback trouble.

On a TV, check network conditions and Broadcast Delay
If you are watching in a TV app, move the device closer to the router if practical, reduce interference, and limit competing devices or network traffic. On TV apps that expose a Broadcast Delay setting, YouTube describes Default as best for minimizing playback interruptions and Decrease as the lower-delay choice. Not every device or app exposes this control.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why a low-latency stream can be easier to interrupt
Latency is the delay between the broadcast and what you see. Lower latency means the player has less buffer to absorb brief network slowdowns, which can raise the chance of interruptions. YouTube also notes that congestion and other factors can affect live programming even on a good network. If the player exposes Buffer Health in Stats for nerds, that can help show whether the playback buffer is running low. See YouTube’s explanation of live streaming latency.
Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
For the TV-app setting described above, use Default when avoiding interruptions matters more than minimizing delay. A lower-delay mode trades some buffer resilience for immediacy; it is not a general fix for a weak connection.
What to try before buying equipment
Diagnose first: compare viewers and devices, inspect stream health if you operate the broadcast, and test upload stability or playback on another connection as appropriate. If a creator suspects Wi-Fi instability, an Ethernet cable can be a practical way to test a wired connection, but it is not a guaranteed fix and YouTube’s encoder guidance does not prescribe it. A viewer should first check location, interference and competing traffic before considering a router replacement.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you operate a continuous prerecorded radio-style YouTube stream and the problem is keeping the broadcast running from your own computer, StreamNeo is a cloud option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It loops uploaded videos; it does not broadcast from a camera.
