How to Loop Music Continuously on a YouTube Radio Stream

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For a listener, looping means turning on YouTube’s Loop or Repeat control for a video or playlist. For a creator, a continuous radio-style broadcast is different: play or automate the music in a source setup, send that feed through streaming software or a hardware encoder to YouTube Live, and keep the broadcast monitored. The viewer’s Loop control does not create a live stream.

Repeat a YouTube video or playlist as a listener

These controls repeat content already playing on YouTube; they do not broadcast it to other viewers.

On a computer

  1. Open the video you want to repeat.
  2. Right-click the video player and select Loop.
  3. To repeat a playlist, open a video from that playlist, expand the playlist panel, and select the playlist’s Loop control.

On a phone or tablet

  1. For a single video, open the video’s Settings > Additional settings > Loop video.
  2. For a playlist, play it and use its Loop control. YouTube also documents tapping the control a second time to repeat the current video within the playlist.

On a TV or gaming console

While playback is running, use the remote or controller to select Repeat until it indicates the current video or playlist, or look for Repeat in Settings. Labels and control placement can vary by device.

These are viewer-side instructions from YouTube’s guide to looping videos and playlists. They do not automate a creator’s broadcast.

Set up a continuous YouTube radio-style live stream

A creator’s broadcast needs a continuous program feed and an encoder. YouTube defines an encoder as a tool that converts video into a digital format it can stream; it can be a software app or standalone hardware. YouTube’s encoder guidance includes continuous live streams as a possible use of existing content libraries, but it does not prescribe one universal way to configure a source player to repeat. Set up looping or playlist automation in the software or production system that supplies your feed, and verify that it continues playing without intervention.

  1. Prepare the program feed. Arrange the audio and any visuals in your playback or production setup. Configure its repeat or playlist behavior there, not in YouTube’s viewer controls. Confirm the source plays continuously before sending it live.
  2. Create the YouTube stream. In YouTube Studio, open Create > Go Live and set up the broadcast. In Live Control Room, find the stream URL and stream key for the encoder.
  3. Connect the encoder. Enter the YouTube stream URL and key in your encoder, then start sending the feed. Treat the stream key like a password: anyone with it may be able to send a feed to your stream.
  4. Preview and go live. Check the incoming preview and stream health in Live Control Room, then use its controls to bring the stream live. Monitor both the source playback and YouTube’s stream health during the broadcast.
  5. Choose viewer seeking behavior. YouTube’s Enable DVR setting lets viewers pause, rewind, and resume a live stream. DVR is a viewer control, not a way to make a finite recording repeat automatically.
  6. End and archive deliberately. Stop the broadcast and encoder when the program is over. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; do not assume that a longer continuous broadcast will be uninterrupted or automatically archived.

For the current YouTube-side setup and stream settings, see Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder and Manage live stream settings. Hardware encoding is optional; software is also supported. No particular encoder model is required by this workflow.

Clear music rights before broadcasting

YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. If matched content remains after a warning, YouTube may temporarily interrupt or terminate the live stream. A license alone may not prevent interruption: YouTube says the rights owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist.

  • Confirm that permission covers both the musical composition and the specific recording you plan to use.
  • Check that the permission covers the relevant territories, live transmission, and any archived or on-demand playback you intend to leave available.
  • Where Content ID applies, ask the rights owner whether your channel can be allowlisted.
  • Do not assume that music being available on YouTube or described as “free” permits continuous live broadcasting.

YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance covers matching and allowlisting. Its livestream terms and conditions place responsibility on providers to have the necessary rights, including music licensing rights. This is a platform requirements checklist, not jurisdiction-specific legal advice.

Creator Music is not a live-stream license

YouTube’s current Creator Music guidance describes its tracks for long-form videos, not live streams. It also says Creator Music is available to U.S. YouTube Partner Program creators, with expansion outside the U.S. pending. Do not treat a Creator Music video license or revenue-sharing option as permission for a continuous radio broadcast. See Understand Creator Music usage details.
