Can You Use Copyrighted Music on a 24/7 YouTube Radio Stream?

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Only if you have permission that covers playing the music in a YouTube livestream and meet YouTube’s rights requirements. Buying a song, finding it online, or seeing it offered through Creator Music does not by itself clear it for a continuous broadcast. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content, and a match can prompt a warning, interruption, or termination. Even with a license, the rights holder may need to allowlist your channel in Content ID.

What rights a 24/7 music livestream needs

YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions put responsibility on the provider to hold the rights needed to use live content on Google services worldwide. They specifically identify music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers—including public-performance licenses—and other royalty participants. The terms also require applicable regulatory licenses, consents, notifications, or approvals to be maintained for the duration of the stream.

The permission you need depends on the music, the license, the countries where the stream is available, and applicable law. For a 24/7 stream, check the actual grant rather than assuming a license for an ordinary edited video also covers a continuous live broadcast.

Why YouTube can interrupt a stream even when you have a license

YouTube says it scans every livestream for matches to third-party content. When it detects a match, it may replace the stream with a placeholder and warn you. Continued use can lead to a temporary interruption or termination. YouTube also says a rights holder should add a licensed channel to its Content ID allowlist; without that step, a live stream may still be interrupted. See YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

A successful broadcast does not necessarily clear the recording afterward: YouTube says Content ID claims may be made after an archived livestream ends. Confirm that your permission covers any archive or replay as well as the live broadcast.

Does Creator Music cover a 24/7 livestream?

No. YouTube says Creator Music licensing and revenue-sharing options apply to eligible long-form videos, not livestreams. Its Creator Music FAQ explicitly says the program does not support licensing for live content; its usage details likewise describe long-form video use. A track available through Creator Music is therefore not, by that fact alone, cleared for continuous live radio.

How to check music before going live

  1. Make a track-by-track rights record. Identify the relevant recording and composition, who controls each, and the permission that applies to each track.
  2. Confirm the license scope in writing. Check that it expressly covers livestreaming on YouTube, your intended territories, monetization if applicable, continuous or repeated use, and any archive or replay. Do not infer those rights from owning a copy, a “royalty-free” label, or a license intended for edited videos.
  3. Ask about Content ID allowlisting. If applicable, ask the rights holder to allowlist your YouTube channel. A license does not automatically prevent an automated interruption.
  4. Test and monitor the channel. Check YouTube Studio for warnings or restrictions and confirm the stream behaves as expected before relying on it continuously.
  5. Recheck when the use changes. Review permissions if you change territories, playlists, stream format, monetization, or archived-live settings. YouTube’s livestream terms also apply to archived content where offered.
  6. Respond to a claim or interruption. Identify the affected track and rights holder, compare the claim with the license scope, and follow YouTube’s resolution process. Do not assume the live broadcast’s completion also clears its archive.

Safer music sources—and what to verify

YouTube describes music in the public domain and music used with permission as copyright-safe categories. It recommends its Audio Library, original music, and careful review of third-party license terms in its tips to find safe music. A description calling a track “free” does not itself stop a Content ID match.

For any source, verify the specific track’s terms for live use, YouTube, planned territories, monetization, continuous playback, and replay. YouTube’s Audio Library guidance can help creators find music for YouTube videos, but it does not establish that every track or license is suitable for every 24/7 radio setup. Check the applicable terms track by track.

Keep the stream running without leaving a computer on

StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live; its cloud service loops the uploaded video, so a computer, OBS, and a home internet connection do not have to stay on. StreamNeo does not grant music rights: clear every track for your intended livestream and any archive independently before uploading it.

Or let it run in the cloud

With StreamNeo, upload the cleared video or playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; uploaded video streams at its original quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, with no quality tiers; and the service automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
