For a mostly static bhajan stream, start with 720p at 30 fps, H.264, CBR, and a 2-second keyframe interval. YouTube’s recommended H.264 ingestion bitrate for 720p30 is 8 Mbps, with 3 Mbps as its listed minimum. Choose 1080p30 instead when the visual detail justifies it and your upload connection can sustain YouTube’s 14 Mbps recommendation (5 Mbps minimum). These are YouTube’s general live-ingestion settings, not a bhajan-specific performance test.
Recommended bitrate settings for bhajans
Use the bitrate range that matches the resolution and frame rate you send to YouTube. The figures below are YouTube’s H.264 live-ingestion recommendations; YouTube transcodes the incoming feed into playback formats for viewers, so the encoder bitrate is not necessarily the bitrate each viewer receives.

For a static scene or simple loop, 30 fps is usually the more practical starting point: extra frames do not add much to a still image, but they do raise the recommended bitrate. YouTube lists 3 Mbps minimum and 8 Mbps recommended for 720p60, and 6 Mbps minimum and 17 Mbps recommended for 1080p60. Use 60 fps only when the visual motion benefits from it and the upload path can handle the added demand.
Set up the encoder
These are settings for the stream sent from your encoder to YouTube, not guarantees of a particular viewer’s playback quality. YouTube’s encoder guidance supports H.264 and also lists H.265/HEVC and AV1; the table above is specifically for H.264.

- Protocol: Choose RTMPS where your encoder offers it; YouTube recommends it among RTMP-family protocols.
- Video codec: H.264 is a broadly documented option. Match the resolution and frame rate to the output you intend to send.
- Bitrate mode: Set constant bitrate (CBR), then choose the rate appropriate to the selected H.264 mode.
- Keyframes: Set the interval to 2 seconds. Do not exceed 4 seconds.
- Audio: YouTube lists AAC and MP3 for RTMP/RTMPS. For stereo, its recommendation is 44.1 kHz at 128 kbps.
Test before leaving the stream unattended
- Check the source and connection. Play audio and motion similar to the planned broadcast, then test the upload capacity with the encoder running at the intended settings. A speed-test result by itself does not establish that a connection will remain stable for a continuous stream.
- Run a private or otherwise appropriate test broadcast. Confirm the picture, sound, and stream status in YouTube before relying on the setup for a long session.
- Watch stream health and messages. Check for dropped frames, connection warnings, or audio problems while live. YouTube recommends testing and monitoring; it does not give one universal upload-speed multiplier or guarantee 24/7 uptime.
YouTube’s guidance also covers encoder workflows using streaming software or a standalone hardware encoder. Dedicated hardware is optional, not a prerequisite; verify a particular device’s compatibility and continuous-duty suitability before buying it.
Plan around YouTube’s 12-hour replay limits
Automatic archives
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived. A stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. If keeping a replay matters, retain a separate local recording and consider ending and restarting the broadcast before it passes 12 hours.

DVR rewind
DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. If viewers rely on rewinding, tell them when the schedule uses long sessions and consider whether shorter broadcasts better suit that need.
Clear music rights before streaming
The word “bhajan” does not establish that a particular recording is free to use. Confirm that you have the necessary rights for the actual recording and performance, including permissions relevant to the artists, label, publisher, and other rights participants. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; if copyrighted material remains in the feed, it may interrupt or terminate the stream. Even licensed third-party material may be interrupted unless the rights owner allowlists your channel through Content ID. Review YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams and its livestream terms and conditions.
