Your channel must be eligible to livestream, you must have the necessary worldwide rights to everything in the stream, and the content must comply with YouTube policies. A stream lasting more than 12 hours may not be archived, and monetization is a separate review of your channel’s originality and value.
What YouTube’s rules do—and do not—say
YouTube’s livestream guidance sets eligibility and content requirements; it does not expressly approve every configuration of continuous prerecorded video, nor does it categorically ban all such streams. Whether a particular stream is allowed depends on its material, rights, channel status and compliance with the platform’s rules. Check YouTube’s getting-started livestream guidance and the YouTube Terms of Service.
For an operator, this means a stream that technically starts is not necessarily policy-compliant, eligible for monetization, or guaranteed to remain live. Treat those as distinct questions.
Check livestream eligibility before setting up a loop
YouTube says a channel must be verified and must not have had a livestreaming restriction in the previous 90 days to livestream. All live content must also follow YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. See YouTube’s livestream eligibility guidance.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Confirm the channel is verified and livestreaming is available to it.
- Check for any recent livestream restriction that would make the channel ineligible.
- Review the actual video, audio, overlays and other material in the planned stream against Community Guidelines and the Terms of Service.
Meeting the eligibility conditions lets you start livestreaming; it is not advance approval of the specific content or format.
Secure rights to everything in the stream
YouTube’s livestream terms require the provider to have the rights needed for worldwide exploitation of the live content on Google services, including applicable music rights from artists, record labels, publishers and other rights participants. The terms also require compliance with applicable laws and regulatory clearances in the stream’s territory. Read the YouTube Terms of Service.
Do not assume that owning a video file, finding a track online, or having permission to use a recording automatically covers worldwide livestream use. Check the scope and territories of each permission, including music and any third-party footage, artwork or broadcasts.

Copyright detection can interrupt a licensed stream
YouTube says all livestreams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including another live broadcast. If a match is detected, YouTube may replace the stream with a placeholder and warn the creator to stop showing the material. If it remains, the stream may be temporarily interrupted or terminated; copyright or Community Guidelines strikes can also lead to termination. See YouTube’s livestream copyright guidance.

A licence does not necessarily prevent an interruption. YouTube instructs creators using licensed third-party material to ask the rights holder to add their channel to the Content ID allowlist. Confirm that step with the owner before going live; otherwise, an otherwise licensed stream may still be interrupted.
Understand the separate monetization test
Permission to use material and eligibility to monetize it are different questions. YouTube’s channel monetization policies apply to livestreams and assess the channel as a whole. YouTube says monetized content should be original and should not be mass-produced, generic, repetitive or manipulative. Reviewers may consider the channel’s theme, most-viewed and newest videos, the largest share of watch time, metadata and About section. See YouTube’s channel monetization policies.

The reused-content policy addresses material repurposed from YouTube or another online source without significant original commentary, substantive modification, or educational or entertainment value. It is separate from copyright: a channel can have permission and still fail this monetization review, or face a reused-content decision without a copyright claim.
On July 15, 2025, YouTube clarified that “repetitious content” had been renamed “inauthentic content” to describe the existing rule against repetitive or mass-produced material; YouTube said the reused-content policy did not change. A repetitive loop may therefore raise monetization concerns even when you have the necessary rights. Assess the channel’s overall originality and value, not only whether one video is licensed.

If preserving a replay matters, shorter sessions are the safer documented option. The guidance does not promise that splitting a long stream will guarantee archive processing. A continuous stream avoids planned session breaks, but it does not remove the archive risk. Decide whether uninterrupted viewing or a better chance of retaining session replays matters more, and keep a local copy when you need one.

Use an encoder you can supervise and recover
YouTube’s setup process uses a stream URL and stream key in an encoder, which sends the feed to YouTube. Its guidance identifies software encoders as one way to livestream, but does not prescribe a computer model or hardware specification for unattended operation. See YouTube’s encoder setup instructions and livestreaming tips.
- In YouTube Studio, create or schedule the livestream and retrieve its stream URL and stream key.
- Enter those connection details in your chosen encoder, following that encoder’s instructions. Keep the stream key private; anyone with access to it may be able to send video to your stream.
- Load only video and audio you have the rights to use, then start the encoder and confirm the stream appears correctly in YouTube Studio.
- Plan who or what will notice an interruption and restart the stream. YouTube does not promise uninterrupted operation. If you need an archive, also arrange local recording and consider the 12-hour guidance.
The exact controls, encoding settings and recovery steps depend on the encoder. YouTube’s cited setup guidance does not establish a required bitrate, resolution, keyframe interval or computer specification for every prerecorded 24/7 stream; follow the current instructions for your encoder and the requirements shown in YouTube Studio rather than treating one configuration as universal.

Can a 24/7 stream earn ad revenue?
Eligible monetized channels can enable livestream monetization. YouTube says pre-roll and display ads are enabled automatically when monetization is turned on; mid-rolls can be automatic or manually configured. Ad slots are not guaranteed to serve because YouTube’s ad systems choose when to show them based on multiple factors. See YouTube’s livestream ads guidance. Revenue is possible, not assured, and the channel must still satisfy monetization policies.
Quick Recap
Common problems and what to check
- You cannot start the livestream: Check channel verification and whether a livestreaming restriction occurred in the previous 90 days.
- The stream is interrupted after a copyright warning: Identify the matched material and stop using it unless you have the required rights. For licensed content, ask the rights holder to allowlist your channel in Content ID.
- A long stream has no replay: Streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured. Keep a local recording and use shorter sessions if retaining an archive is important.
- The channel is not eligible for monetization: Rights alone do not establish monetization eligibility. Review the channel for repetitive or mass-produced output and reused material lacking significant original contribution or value.
- The stream stops and does not resume: Check the encoder or hosting service, stream-key configuration and connection to YouTube, then restart according to that service’s instructions. YouTube does not guarantee continuous uptime.
