1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteIf OBS’s Network Dropped Frames counter is rising, the stream’s connection to YouTube’s ingest server is unstable or cannot sustain the configured bitrate. A fast download result—or even a strong upload speed test—doesn’t prove that your connection can continuously send video to that particular server. The counter points to a connection-path problem; it does not, by itself, identify an Indian ISP or prove that your encoder or computer is at fault.
First, identify which frames are dropping
In OBS, open View > Stats and check which counter is increasing. Network-dropped frames are different from rendering lag and encoding lag. This guide is about network drops: the OBS connection to the remote ingest server is not keeping up. If only rendering or encoding lag rises, investigate the computer or encoder instead of treating it as an upload problem.
Check the OBS log as well as the Stats window, and note the exact drop count or percentage and when it happens. Viewer complaints alone are not enough to diagnose sender-side drops: viewers can buffer because of their own networks or devices, or because of platform playback and transcoding conditions, even when OBS reports no network drops.
Why a 24/7 stream can drop frames when a speed test looks fine
A live stream sends video continuously to a specific ingest server. What matters is whether the whole path—from your computer, through your router and ISP route, to that server—can sustain the configured bitrate over time. A speed test is a snapshot and may use a different route or endpoint; a high download result says even less about sustained upload.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Short upload dips can matter even when average bandwidth appears sufficient. A 2021 live-video ingest study observed bursts of dropped frames when available bandwidth fell below the configured encoding bitrate; some bursts reached two seconds’ worth of frames. Under that study’s controlled test conditions, average stall ratios for three services were 3.5%, 1.0%, and 2.1%. Those are results from the study’s setup, not estimates for Indian broadband or your stream.
OBS’s connection troubleshooting guide, dated September 30, 2024, suggests using about 75% of total upload speed as a starting bitrate. Treat that as a starting point, not a 24/7 guarantee: your usable capacity can vary, household traffic competes for upload, and the platform has its own bitrate limits. Base adjustments on sustained upload behavior during the periods when drops occur, not a peak test result.

Diagnose the connection in a controlled order
-
Compare wired Ethernet with Wi-Fi
Run the same stream or a comparable sustained upload over Ethernet, then compare its network-drop count with Wi-Fi. OBS recommends a wired connection because Wi-Fi can be unstable for streaming. A Cat 6 Ethernet cable can help you make this comparison, but it cannot fix congestion or a routing problem beyond your home network.
-
Lower the bitrate based on stable upload
Reduce OBS’s configured bitrate and observe the stream over time, particularly during the hours when drops usually occur. Leave room for normal variation and other household uploads, and stay within the streaming platform’s limits. There is no single safe bitrate for every Indian broadband line: it depends on sustained capacity along your route to the selected ingest server.

-
Test another ingest server
If another ingest server is available, change only that variable and compare drop counts and bitrate stability over the same observation window. A different result helps narrow down where the issue may lie, but does not prove which network operator is responsible.
-
Check local network software and equipment
OBS lists VPNs, security software, network-priority utilities, outdated drivers, modem or router connectivity, faulty cables, network cards, switches, and extenders among possible contributors. Try reversible checks first: temporarily test without a VPN or network-priority tool if appropriate, check cables and router connections, and review driver updates. OBS’s Windows network optimizations and TCP pacing advice is Windows-specific. Its IPv4-only suggestion should be reverted to the IPv4/IPv6 default if it makes no difference.

-
Use dynamic bitrate only as a fallback
Dynamic bitrate can lower the sending bitrate when the connection cannot keep up, which may reduce drops during a capacity dip. It does not repair the underlying connection and can reduce picture quality. For a continuous nature stream, monitor the stream for quality changes if you enable it.
-
Contact your ISP if the problem persists
OBS notes that ISP-side route changes or congestion may be outside your control. Share timestamps, relevant OBS logs, your configured bitrate, the selected ingest server, and results from wired-versus-Wi-Fi and alternate-server tests. Ask the provider to investigate the connection during the affected periods rather than relying only on a general speed-test result.

What Indian broadband rules do—and do not—tell you
TRAI says it does not prescribe a minimum broadband upload or download speed. Providers must state typical speeds in their tariff offerings. TRAI’s FAQ says at least 90% of measured samples during testing must meet or exceed the declared typical speed. That threshold does not establish that a particular line will sustain your stream’s bitrate at every hour or reach a specific YouTube ingest server without congestion or loss.
TRAI’s MySpeed portal is a regulator’s measurement resource, not a current ranking of Indian providers or a diagnosis of international routing to a livestreaming platform. The available information does not establish that Indian broadband as a whole, or any named ISP, is responsible for your drops.
Keep sender-side drops separate from viewer buffering
If OBS reports no network-dropped frames but viewers say the nature stream buffers, don’t assume your broadband upload is the cause. Viewers have different connections, devices, and locations. Check the viewer’s playback conditions and consider whether the stream bitrate and platform transcoding options suit the audience. Diagnose the OBS sender counter separately from reports about playback.
Evidence to collect before asking for help
- Date and time of the issue, including whether it is continuous or recurs at particular periods.
- The OBS log and the exact network-dropped-frame count or percentage.
- Configured bitrate and observed bitrate over time.
- Platform and selected ingest server, plus whether a different server changes the symptom.
- Whether the source computer was on Ethernet or Wi-Fi, and relevant router, modem, or network-software details.
- Repeated upload observations taken during the affected period, not just a download result or one peak upload test.
This is a practical troubleshooting record, not a prescribed TRAI complaint format. Keeping the stream content, observation period, and settings consistent makes comparisons more useful.
