If your LiveReacting stream keeps stopping on YouTube, first check whether you started it with LiveReacting’s direct hosting or with Plugin Mode and a local encoder such as OBS. Plugin Mode depends on the encoder computer and its internet connection; a directly hosted broadcast runs on LiveReacting’s servers, so a closed laptop alone should not stop it. Then compare what the encoder reports with YouTube’s stream-health messages and how many viewers are affected.
First identify what is actually stopping
“Stopping” can mean several different things: the broadcast disappears from YouTube, the encoder disconnects, the picture freezes or turns black, or viewers experience buffering while the broadcast remains live. Check YouTube Live Control Room and the encoder before changing settings.
- Only one viewer has an error: check that viewer’s device and network first; the problem may be local to them.
- Several viewers on the same network have trouble: investigate that shared network.
- Viewers on separate networks report problems: focus on the stream or encoder, especially if the encoder reports an error or its output is unhealthy.
YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance distinguishes viewer-side problems from issues affecting a wider audience. A viewer report by itself does not establish that the broadcast ended. YouTube Help: Troubleshoot your live stream.
Check whether LiveReacting is using Plugin Mode

- Open the LiveReacting YouTube settings and establish whether Plugin Mode is enabled.
- If it is, check the selected local encoder and confirm it is still sending output.
- Open YouTube Live Control Room and read the stream-health messages alongside the encoder’s own status and logs.
Fix a Plugin Mode or local encoder disconnect
Inspect the encoder before changing the network
YouTube’s recommended troubleshooting sequence is to update the encoder, check its output, inspect encoder errors and CPU load, and review a local recording for audio or video problems. If the encoder output is healthy but the stream is not reaching YouTube reliably, test the outbound internet connection. YouTube Help: Troubleshoot your live stream.
- Update the encoder software and check whether it reports dropped frames, connection loss, or overload.
- Look at CPU load during the failure, not just before going live; a machine that becomes overloaded can fail to keep up.
- Review a local recording to determine whether the fault is already present in the encoder output or appears only after transmission.
- Test outbound connection quality if the encoder’s local output looks and sounds normal. For an unstable local connection, Ethernet may be worth testing, but neither YouTube nor LiveReacting identifies a cable as a universal fix.
Choose settings the connection can sustain
YouTube’s guidance is to choose a quality that remains reliable for the available internet connection: “Make sure you choose a quality that will result in a reliable stream based on your internet connection.” Test before the live event with similar audio and motion, then monitor stream health while live. YouTube recommends a 2-second keyframe frequency and says not to exceed 4 seconds. These are YouTube encoder recommendations, not settings specific to LiveReacting. In LiveReacting Studio, video bitrate can be set manually or left on Auto, which LiveReacting describes as selecting an optimal value based on project settings. Its settings guidance recommends 128k audio unless the destination is known to support a higher input; it notes that higher audio quality could create playback problems. LiveReacting Studio settings.
If LiveReacting is hosting the broadcast directly
LiveReacting says a hosted broadcast runs on its servers and can continue after you close the browser or shut down your computer. If the direct-mode broadcast ends unexpectedly, a closed laptop or home Wi-Fi interruption is therefore not the automatic explanation. For audio or video problems within Studio, LiveReacting’s troubleshooting guidance covers checking microphone and webcam layers and syncing by removing and re-adding layers. Check duration only if the ending repeats at the same time
If the stream stops at a predictable duration, review its scheduled or configured end time. LiveReacting’s help says YouTube has no duration limit, but streams longer than 12 hours will not be archived. That archive note is not evidence of an automatic cutoff at 12 hours.
