You can run a prerecorded nature stream on a spare computer without OBS by using another encoder to play the video and send it to YouTube Live. The computer still has to stay powered on, connected to the internet, and running the encoder. If you want a prerecorded loop to continue while your computer is off, use a cloud playlist service instead.
What “without OBS” means
OBS is only one option for encoding and sending a live feed. A local setup still needs software to read the nature video, encode it in a format YouTube accepts, and upload it continuously. Choose a non-OBS encoder that supports your video source and YouTube’s connection workflow; exact controls and settings vary by encoder.
This method is for prerecorded video. A spare computer can also support live inputs or scene changes if the encoder you choose supports them, but a simple video loop does not itself provide live camera footage or interactive scenes.
Set up the spare computer and YouTube stream
- Check channel eligibility. YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Review YouTube’s live-streaming setup guidance if you cannot start a stream.
- Create or select a live stream in YouTube Studio. Open Live Control Room and use its encoder workflow. Copy the server URL and stream key shown for the stream.
- Configure your non-OBS encoder. Select the nature video as the source, then enter YouTube’s server URL and stream key in the encoder’s YouTube or custom RTMP connection fields. The exact labels depend on the encoder. YouTube describes the key as the credential/address the encoder uses to send the feed.
- Start the encoder and check the preview. Confirm the video and audio appear in Live Control Room before you make the stream public or share it with viewers.
- Keep the computer available. Disable sleep for the duration of the stream, keep the computer and router on reliable power, and use a stable internet connection. Check the stream from another device after launch.
Protect the stream key like a password: anyone who has it may be able to send a feed to your stream. Do not publish it or share it in screenshots. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder with the new key.

YouTube’s general encoder workflow is documented, but encoder-specific menus and technical settings are not established here. Consult the documentation for the encoder you select and YouTube’s current technical recommendations rather than relying on a generic command or guessed bitrate, resolution, or keyframe interval.
What must stay running at home
In a local setup, the spare computer does the playback, encoding, and upload work for as long as the stream runs. The practical dependencies are the machine, its power supply, and your home internet connection. A power cut, computer restart, software update, or lost uplink can interrupt the broadcast. A UPS for the computer and router may help with some power interruptions, but runtime depends on the actual equipment and battery capacity.

Check the machine after operating-system or graphics-driver updates, which can restart it or affect the encoder. For an unattended stream, test the full workflow before relying on it and periodically verify the live feed from another device.

YouTube archives, copyright, and monetization
Do not count on a complete 24-hour replay
YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived; a stream that exceeds 12 hours may not be captured at all. That is a platform archive rule, not a guarantee that a long broadcast will remain available as a replay. If keeping an archive matters, make a separate recording or plan shorter segments, and check YouTube’s current live-stream archive guidance.
Clear rights for both video and sound
You need appropriate rights to livestream the footage and audio, and to keep any resulting archive. YouTube’s livestream terms say: “You represent and warrant that You have all necessary rights for the exploitation of the Live Content on the Google Services throughout the world, including, without limitation, music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers (including public performance licenses) and any other royalty participants.” Do not assume that nature sounds, background music, or footage are cleared simply because they are part of an ambient video. A loop is not automatically monetizable
YouTube’s monetization policies identify repetitive or mass-produced material as “inauthentic content” that is ineligible for monetization, and the policy applies to live streams. A continuous runtime by itself does not establish that a channel or stream qualifies. Review YouTube’s channel monetization policies and make the content original and useful.

- No preview in Live Control Room: Confirm the encoder is running and that you entered the correct server URL and current stream key. Check the encoder’s own connection status and network access.
- The stream stops when unattended: Check sleep and restart settings, power stability, encoder status, and whether updates are scheduled to interrupt the computer.
- The key may have been exposed: Reset it in YouTube Studio and replace it in the encoder before restarting the stream.
- The broadcast is online but the archive is missing or incomplete: A stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured by YouTube. Use a separate recording or shorter segments if an archive is important.
- Monetization is denied or limited: Review whether the channel’s loop is repetitive or mass-produced under YouTube’s inauthentic-content policy; uninterrupted streaming is not a substitute for original, valuable content.
