Choose OBS if you want a free, locally controlled setup and can leave your computer and internet connection running. Choose Gyre if you want a cloud-hosted loop that continues without your computer. For a third option, StreamNeo keeps uploaded videos looping from the cloud on YouTube, with one flat price per slot for any quality up to 4K 60fps and a free first day.
OBS vs. Gyre: the practical difference
OBS plays and encodes the video on your computer, which sends the stream to YouTube. Gyre says its servers handle the files and send the stream, so your computer does not have to remain on. YouTube’s encoder guide lists OBS as open-source streaming software and Gyre as a cloud-based prerecorded-video streaming tool; a listing is not a guarantee of stream performance, monetization, or audience results. YouTube’s encoder guide · Gyre’s cloud-streaming guide
| Consideration | OBS | Gyre |
|---|---|---|
| Where video plays and stream is sent | On your computer through OBS media sources. | On Gyre’s cloud servers, according to the vendor. |
| Looping | Single file through Media Source Loop; playlist through VLC Video and Loop Playlist. | Cloud playlists and continuous looping are advertised by the service. |
| Computer needed during broadcast | Yes. The computer, OBS, and its internet connection must keep running. | Gyre says its servers transmit the stream, so the local computer is not needed for the continuing broadcast. |
| Cost model | YouTube describes OBS as open-source software available at no charge. | Trial and paid plans; check the current plan table for price and limits. |
| Best fit | Hands-on local control and a creator able to maintain the computer and connection. | Unattended cloud looping or concurrent streams, subject to plan limits. |
| Main trade-off | You are responsible for local uptime and network reliability. | Recurring cost, plan limits, and reliance on a third-party service. |
There is no independent comparative statistic here establishing that either method improves reach, watch time, or revenue. Those outcomes depend on the content, audience, rights, eligibility, and YouTube’s decisions.
Loop one video or a playlist in OBS
Loop a single local video
- In OBS, create or select a scene, then add a Media Source and point it to the video file. OBS documents support for common formats including MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, and WebM.
- In the Media Source settings, enable Loop. The file will replay when playback reaches its end.
- Set up the YouTube broadcast and connect OBS using YouTube’s encoder workflow. An encoder converts video into a digital format for streaming; YouTube’s workflow also supports production setups with screen sharing and external audio/video equipment. See Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Keep the computer awake, OBS running, and the internet connection available while you want the stream to continue.
Loop multiple videos
- Install VLC if it is not already installed; OBS requires it for the VLC Video source.
- Add a VLC Video source to the scene and select the files for the playlist.
- Enable Loop Playlist in the source settings. OBS also documents shuffle controls for playlists.
OBS’s Media Sources documentation covers the Media Source loop toggle and VLC playlist controls. The exact look of settings can vary by OBS version, so use the source’s current properties rather than relying on an older screenshot.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Run a prerecorded loop with Gyre
- Upload or select the video files in Gyre, arrange the playlist, and configure the stream in the service. Gyre describes cloud storage, a converter, playlists, and scheduling.
- Authorize or connect the YouTube channel as required by Gyre and create the broadcast using its workflow.
- Before choosing a plan, check its current storage, resolution, number of simultaneous streams, watermark status, scheduling features, supported destinations, and price on Gyre’s plan page. These are changeable product terms; no single tier or price should be assumed from an older description.
- Confirm the channel’s YouTube Studio live and monetization settings. Gyre’s September 29, 2026 update says its YouTube API automation can create broadcasts and that monetization behavior depends on channel settings; treat that as vendor guidance and verify the settings for your own channel. See Gyre’s automation update.
Which option should you use?
- Pick OBS if you want local control, do not mind leaving a computer and connection running, and prefer not to pay for cloud streaming software.
- Pick Gyre if avoiding an always-on home computer matters more than avoiding a subscription, and its current storage, stream-count, and video limits fit your setup.
- Try StreamNeo first if you want a YouTube-only cloud loop: it runs continuously without your computer, streams the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers a free first day.
Copyright, archives, and monetization checks
Use only video and audio you have permission to stream. YouTube warns that third-party content can interrupt a live stream; if the broadcast is archived, a Content ID claim may also be made after the stream ends. Read YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams and check the channel’s live controls before starting.
A continuous loop is not a promise of monetization or recommendations. Confirm your channel’s current eligibility and settings in YouTube Studio, and make sure the material and format comply with YouTube’s rules. Neither a tool listing nor an automated broadcast setup guarantees that a channel or stream will qualify.
