To run a 24/7 YouTube radio stream with changing visuals, build an OBS scene that loops a video or plays a playlist, connect OBS to YouTube Live Control Room with your stream URL and key, then keep the encoder, computer and internet connection running. For true round-the-clock operation, you also need monitoring and a recovery plan—and permission to broadcast every song and image.
Before you start: check channel access and rights
Confirm your channel can go live
YouTube’s encoder workflow requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. YouTube’s current Help page also says streamers must be at least 16. Check your account’s Live Control Room before preparing a long broadcast: eligibility and interface details can change. YouTube: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder
Clear the music and visuals for the actual uses
Use material you own or have permission to use for the live broadcast and any replay, in the relevant territories. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; a match can replace the image with a placeholder, interrupt the broadcast or terminate it. A license alone may not prevent a Content ID interruption: ask the rights holder whether your channel must be allowlisted. YouTube’s live-stream terms put responsibility on the provider to have the necessary rights, including music rights. YouTube: Copyright issues with live streams · YouTube Terms of Service
Prepare the rotating-visual program
Decide whether you want one visual file to repeat or a playlist that rotates multiple files. A playlist gives you more variety and lets you sequence assets; a single file is simpler to set up. Neither arrangement establishes copyright permission or makes a stream eligible for monetization.

- Check that audio levels are consistent and that each item plays correctly before committing to a continuous broadcast.
Set up OBS to loop a file or playlist
Option A: loop one media file
- Install and open OBS Studio. Create a scene for the radio stream.
- In the Sources area, select + and add Media Source.
- Choose a local video file that combines the audio and visual you want to play. Enable Loop in the source properties.
- Use OBS’s preview to confirm both picture and sound play as intended.
Option B: rotate a playlist with VLC Video
- Install VLC, which OBS requires for its VLC Video source.
- In your scene’s Sources area, select + and add VLC Video.
- Add the video files you want in the playlist, arrange their order, and enable Loop Playlist.
- Preview the scene and verify that playback advances through the list and returns to the beginning.
OBS’s media sources support common video and audio formats; exact compatibility depends on the source and installed components. If an item fails in preview, try converting it to a commonly supported format or use a different source. OBS documents these source controls in its Media Sources guide.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live Control Room
- In YouTube Studio, open Create → Go live to enter Live Control Room. Create or schedule an encoder stream.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that stream.
- In OBS, open Settings → Stream, choose YouTube as the service, and enter the connection details. If you use a custom RTMP setup, use the URL and key supplied in Live Control Room.
- Return to Live Control Room and wait for the incoming feed preview. Confirm that the picture and audio are correct before starting the public broadcast.
- Start streaming in OBS, then start the stream in Live Control Room if YouTube presents a separate go-live action. Check the public watch page after launch.
Treat the stream key like a password: anyone with it may be able to send video to your stream. Do not share it publicly, and regenerate it in YouTube if you believe it has been exposed. YouTube: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder

Keep the stream running continuously
A looping source does not make a broadcast 24/7 on its own. OBS, the host computer and its network connection must remain available. YouTube recommends reliable connectivity, a bandwidth margin and ongoing stream-quality checks; a connection disruption can break the stream. Keep the computer powered, prevent sleep, and monitor both the encoder and the public watch page. Have a plan to restart the stream after a power, software or internet outage. YouTube: Streaming tips
Plan the archive separately
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. An indefinitely running broadcast should not be treated as one guaranteed, complete replay. If replay access matters, split the programming into broadcasts under 12 hours and confirm the current archive behavior in Studio. YouTube: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder

Managed and work-issued computers can block new USB audio devices by policy - check with your IT department before ordering for a company machine.

Understand monetization and policy limits
Running continuously or rotating the visual does not guarantee YouTube Partner Program approval or ad delivery. YouTube’s monetization policy, updated July 15, 2025, describes repetitive or mass-produced material as “inauthentic content” and says content, including live streams, should have materially varied substance and creative, educational or other value. Assess the program itself—not just its broadcast duration or changing picture—against the policy. Eligible live streams may use ads, Super Chat and Super Stickers, or memberships, but YouTube does not guarantee that ads will serve. Troubleshooting common problems
- YouTube shows no incoming video: Check that OBS is streaming, the correct URL and key are entered, and Live Control Room is open for the matching broadcast. If the key may be compromised or incorrect, create or copy a valid key in Studio.
- The picture or sound stops at the end of a file: Reopen the Media Source properties and confirm Loop is enabled, or check Loop Playlist for VLC Video. Preview the source before going live.
- The VLC playlist does not play: Confirm VLC is installed, the file paths still point to available files, and each item plays in VLC. Recheck the OBS playlist and preview.
- The stream drops or becomes unstable: Check internet reliability and available upload capacity, then inspect OBS and YouTube’s stream-health indicators. Restore the connection and restart the encoder or broadcast as needed; a loop cannot continue while its host or network is unavailable.
- YouTube interrupts the broadcast over music: Review the Content ID notice and resolve the rights issue with the relevant rights holder. If the music is licensed, ask whether your channel must be allowlisted; do not assume a license automatically prevents automated interruption.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you do not want a home computer and connection to carry the broadcast, StreamNeo keeps an uploaded video or playlist looping from the cloud to YouTube. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams your upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for uploaded videos and YouTube streams, not camera broadcasts. See StreamNeo or start your free day.
