The announcement is reported by Cointelegraph via LCX; the available reporting does not independently reconcile every return transaction or provide a complete technical postmortem.
What happened to NEAR Intents?
On October 1, 2026, The Block reported that NEAR Intents had halted services after an exploit caused losses of approximately $3.8 million. The reported vulnerability involved how Omni deposit and withdrawal infrastructure interacted with the NEAR Intents smart contract. The Block said the contract flaw had been patched and that NEAR pledged to compensate affected users in full. The Block’s October 1 report
The Block also reported that deposits and withdrawals on 11 networks were expected to remain disrupted longer than the near-term reopening of services after the patch. That was an update from the initial incident response, not confirmation of current availability. The Block’s service-disruption report
Was the $3.8 million returned?
Shevchenko said the funds were sent back in full. Cointelegraph, in a report republished by LCX on October 3, attributed the announcement to his X post. This is a reported recovery announcement, not an independently verified transaction-by-transaction accounting of the entire amount. Cointelegraph’s report via LCX

BlockTempo reported that the Bitcoin address published for returns received about 34.59 BTC. It also said Shevchenko acknowledged that additional routes accounted for the remainder, without explaining those routes. The address total therefore does not by itself establish how the full announced amount was returned. BlockTempo’s account of the return address
The Block’s initial report also said investigator ZachXBT traced funds through KuCoin and onward to Bitcoin. That reported trace does not establish the complete recovery path. The Block’s incident report

What did the 48-hour ultimatum mean?
Coverage by BlockTempo says the project offered the alleged exploiter 48 hours to return the funds under a responsible-disclosure window. Cointelegraph via LCX reported Shevchenko’s subsequent statement that the investigation was stopping and urged researchers to use bug bounties rather than disrupt services. The reports do not explain how the project identified the person it said was responsible, so that identification remains the project’s claim.
