Which device is better for your day-to-day use?
Choose iPhone Duo if one device needs to be both phone and larger screen
Duo is the fit if you want a phone that can open to a larger display without carrying a separate tablet. Its 5.4-inch outer display is the phone-sized screen; the 7.6-inch inner display is the larger option when unfolded. The value is in combining those roles, not in matching the iPad mini’s tablet workflow.
Choose iPad mini if you want a dedicated tablet
iPad mini makes sense when you already have a phone and want a separate screen for reading, browsing, viewing content, or tablet-oriented tasks. Its 8.3-inch display is larger by diagonal than Duo’s listed inner display, but diagonal size by itself is not a complete measure of usable screen area or comfort.

Which is better for notes and drawing?
For a documented stylus workflow, iPad mini has the broader stated choice: Apple lists compatibility with both Apple Pencil Pro and Apple Pencil (USB-C). Apple says USB-C Pencil support for iPhone Duo is coming later in 2026. Treat that as a timing-dependent feature and confirm support has arrived before buying; Apple’s Duo product page provides the current manufacturer statement.
Apple Pencil compatibility does not mean the two devices offer interchangeable note-taking or drawing experiences. The cited specifications establish compatible Pencil models, not parity in apps, software behavior, or work surface. Apple does not say that either Pencil is included with iPad mini, so account for it separately if you need one.

Is iPhone Duo worth the higher starting price?
Apple’s published U.S. starting prices put Duo $1,400 above iPad mini: $1,999 versus $599. That arithmetic compares the entry prices only; it does not normalize storage or connectivity, and it should not be read as a direct value comparison between two equivalent devices. The practical question is whether you want a foldable phone that also opens to a larger screen, or a lower-starting-price standalone tablet to use with a phone you already own.
Apple names the Duo’s A20 Pro chip and the iPad mini’s A17 Pro chip, but those model names alone do not establish which device is faster in real use. The available specifications are not independent performance testing.
