Generally, yes: viewers can gift channel memberships during an eligible YouTube live stream if the channel has membership gifting enabled and the gifting option is available in Live chat. YouTube’s guidance covers eligible live streams and Premieres, but does not specifically address 24/7 streams, so this is an application of its general rule—not a separate guarantee for always-on broadcasts.
How viewers gift memberships during a livestream
The gift purchase is made from the stream’s Live chat. YouTube’s computer instructions describe these steps:
- Open an eligible channel’s live stream or Premiere and go to Live chat.
- Choose Membership gifting in the chat.
- Select how many viewers to gift, then complete the purchase.
The number of gifts and purchase options shown depend on what YouTube makes available to that viewer. On YouTube’s US English computer help page, the gift is offered at the closest highest price level available up to and including US$9.99; that figure is not a universal price cap, because pricing and availability can differ by locale. What must be eligible for gifting
The channel and stream
The channel must be eligible for membership gifting, and gifting must be available for it. The stream needs to be live (or a Premiere) with Live chat available, since the viewer starts the purchase there. YouTube’s guidance says memberships and gifted memberships can be supported on both horizontal and vertical live streams, subject to eligibility; format alone does not establish that the gift option will appear. The recipient
Potential recipients must opt in to receive gifts. YouTube says they must be subscribed to the channel and have interacted with it recently. Viewers using a Brand Account cannot opt in, and existing channel members are not currently eligible to receive gifted memberships. These recipient rules can affect who receives a gift even when the purchase itself is available. YouTube explains the controls in its gifted-membership help page.
What a gifted membership includes
A gifted membership provides up to one month of channel-membership perks, then expires; it does not renew. YouTube says gifted memberships are non-refundable and cannot be exchanged for cash value. The recipient’s access is therefore temporary rather than a recurring subscription.

What happens if the stream ends during a gift purchase
If the stream or chat ends before the purchase announcement appears, YouTube says the gift is still distributed. It considers the purchase fulfilled once the first membership in the gift has been distributed. See YouTube’s creator guidance on promoting channel memberships.
Why the gift option may not appear
A missing option does not, by itself, show that the 24/7 duration is the problem. Check these conditions:

- Stream and chat: make sure the broadcast is live or a Premiere and that Live chat is available to you.
- Format eligibility: horizontal and vertical streams can support gifting, but only subject to YouTube’s eligibility rules.
- Recipient controls: recipients must opt in and satisfy YouTube’s subscription and recent-interaction conditions; some account types and existing members cannot receive gifts.
For a 24/7 broadcast, the practical test is whether an eligible stream still exposes Membership gifting in Live chat. YouTube’s published guidance does not promise the button will appear on every always-on stream.
Privacy to consider before gifting
Gift purchase details may be visible publicly, including the gifter’s channel name and profile picture. A recipient’s channel name may also be visible when selected. Review YouTube’s gift-membership privacy information if public identification matters to you.

Keeping a YouTube stream online is separate from gifting
