This is a YouTube Live setting; YouTube does not document a separate ad-break mode for looping video. A scheduled slot does not guarantee that every viewer will see an ad.
Set scheduled mid-rolls on your live stream
- In YouTube Studio, click Create > Go live.
- Start a stream from the Stream tab, or schedule one from Manage.
- Open the stream’s Edit > Monetization settings.
- Switch Monetization to On.
- In the live ad settings, choose Scheduled, then choose one interval: 6, 12, 18, 24, or 30 minutes.
- Save or apply the settings, then check the setting on that stream.
The interval controls scheduled mid-roll opportunities, not guaranteed ad delivery at an exact time to every viewer. YouTube says its systems decide whether an ad is served, and some viewers may receive no ad. The fact that your video loops does not change where this control is configured.
Choose between scheduled, automatic, and manual ads

YouTube says scheduled or manual mid-rolls may have lower earnings potential than automatic mid-rolls. Its reported comparison found over 20% average uplift in instream ad revenue per hour among channels with live automatic mid-roll ads enabled versus channels without them. YouTube’s January 2024 comparison covered 207 countries; it is an average comparison, not a revenue promise for an individual channel.
Check channel defaults and existing streams
YouTube describes channel-level mid-roll defaults for monetized channels without rights management. Those defaults apply to newly created live streams. Do not assume changing a default updates a stream that already exists; check the monetization settings on that stream directly.

Keep the loop stream running
Ad-break settings are configured in YouTube Studio, while the loop itself needs a source that continues sending video to YouTube. If you use a computer-based setup, keep the streaming software, computer, and connection running for the duration of the stream; the ad setting does not keep the video source online.

No. You can set scheduled intervals in YouTube Studio; a physical control is optional for manually inserting breaks.
Can I choose an interval shorter than six minutes?
No. The documented scheduled choices are 6, 12, 18, 24, and 30 minutes.
