1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteYou can stream prerecorded videos on YouTube Live by sending them through an encoder on a computer or a standalone hardware encoder. Enable live streaming, create a broadcast in YouTube Studio, enter its stream URL and key in the encoder, then start the feed and monitor it. For a channel intended to run around the clock, plan for reconnections and divide broadcasts into manageable segments: YouTube documents automatic archiving for streams under 12 hours, not a complete archive for a 24-hour stream.
Before you start
- Enable live streaming: YouTube says first-time enablement may take up to 24 hours. Allow for that before a planned launch. YouTube’s encoder setup guide
- Choose an encoder: YouTube supports streaming software running on a computer and standalone hardware encoders. Neither category is mandatory for every creator; select a device and encoder compatible with your video source and current YouTube ingest workflow. YouTube’s guide does not compare their cost, performance, or reliability.
- Prepare the videos and rights: Make sure you have permission to use both the video and its audio. Rights clearance does not by itself guarantee monetization; YouTube also reviews originality and reused-content factors.
- Plan who will monitor the stream: A local encoder needs to remain connected and operational. YouTube documents auto-start and auto-stop controls, but do not assume these controls will keep an encoder connected indefinitely or remove the need to check the stream.
Set up the prerecorded YouTube Live broadcast
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Create a new stream or schedule one. Scheduling creates a shareable watch page and lets viewers set reminders. Follow the current prompts in YouTube’s encoder guide, since labels and available options may change.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key. In the broadcast’s stream settings, retrieve the values YouTube provides. YouTube’s instruction is: “To start streaming, enter your YouTube Live server URL and stream key into your encoder.” Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or share it. If it is exposed, reset it using YouTube’s documented stream-key controls.
- Configure your encoder’s stream destination. Paste in the YouTube stream URL and key, then select the prerecorded video or playlist as the source. The exact menu names, supported formats, and configuration vary by encoder; consult that encoder’s current documentation. YouTube’s cited setup material does not establish a universal bitrate, resolution, keyframe interval, or computer specification, so do not copy arbitrary settings from another encoder.
- Choose broadcast settings deliberately. Set latency based on whether real-time interaction matters. YouTube says lower latency can increase playback buffering; for a prerecorded channel without live interaction, the lowest latency may not be useful. Decide whether to enable DVR: with DVR, viewers can pause, rewind, and resume during the live stream. Confirm auto-start and auto-stop selections match how you intend to operate; YouTube says reusing stream settings also copies those selections. See YouTube’s stream settings guidance.
- Use secure ingestion where supported. YouTube describes RTMPS as RTMP tunneled through SSL and specifies port 443 for RTMPS connections. If your encoder supports it and the workflow calls for secure ingestion, select the RTMPS endpoint. Details are in YouTube’s stream settings guidance.
- Start the encoder feed and inspect the preview. For a scheduled workflow, wait for the feed to appear in Live Control Room, check the preview, and click “Go live” when ready. Keep an eye on both the encoder and YouTube’s status rather than treating a successful start as proof of uninterrupted operation.
Plan for continuous playback and archives
Do not rely on one 24-hour archive
YouTube Help states that “All streams under 12 hours will be automatically archived.” That guidance establishes automatic archiving for streams under 12 hours; it does not establish that a longer broadcast will be saved as one complete video. For an around-the-clock channel, schedule separate broadcast segments and decide how you will handle each resulting archive. Check the current Live Control Room behavior before relying on a single long broadcast. YouTube’s encoder guide
Build in checks and recovery
- Check that the encoder is still sending the prerecorded feed and that YouTube still shows the broadcast as live.
- Have a clear restart procedure for a dropped connection or encoder failure; the cited YouTube material does not promise an endless loop or uninterrupted broadcast.
- Review auto-start and auto-stop settings before reusing a stream configuration. Those controls govern broadcast behavior, not the reliability of the computer, encoder, or network.
- For multi-segment schedules, confirm each segment has the intended title, visibility, and archive handling.
Can a 24/7 prerecorded stream be monetized in India?
It may be eligible, but continuous playback, cleared rights, or accumulated watch time alone does not guarantee monetization. YouTube applies its monetization policies to live streams as well as other formats. Its policy says: “If you’re making money on YouTube, your content should be original and ‘authentic.’” Generic, repetitive, or mass-produced material can be ineligible, and reused content may be ineligible if a channel lacks significant original commentary, substantive modification, or educational or entertainment value. Review YouTube’s channel monetization policies and reused-content guidance.
YouTube’s current YPP overview, accessed in 2026, lists an ad-revenue eligibility route of 1,000 subscribers and either 4,000 qualified public watch hours in the prior 12 months or 10 million qualified Shorts views in the prior 90 days. These thresholds are subject to other requirements, channel review, and change; check your channel’s Earn tab and the current YouTube Partner Program overview before relying on them. Reviewers may consider the channel theme, most-viewed and newest videos, watch-time distribution, metadata, and About section.

Troubleshooting common setup problems
| Symptom | What to check | Practical next step |
|---|---|---|
| Live streaming is not available yet | First-time enablement may take up to 24 hours, according to YouTube. | Wait for enablement to complete, then retry the Live Control Room workflow. YouTube live-streaming access guidance |
| Encoder cannot connect | Check that the stream URL and key match the active YouTube broadcast and that the encoder is configured for the selected ingest endpoint. | Re-copy the URL and key from YouTube; keep the key private. If compromised, reset it. If supported, check whether RTMPS on port 443 fits your workflow. |
| The feed is sending, but the broadcast has not gone live | For a scheduled workflow, the feed must appear in the Live Control Room preview and the broadcast may still need the “Go live” action. | Confirm the preview, then use the Live Control Room control when ready. |
| Playback buffers for viewers | Latency choice affects delay, and YouTube warns that lower latency can mean more buffering. | If the channel does not depend on real-time interaction, consider whether a less aggressive latency setting better suits playback; verify the available options in YouTube Studio. |
| A long broadcast has no complete archive | YouTube guarantees automatic archiving for streams under 12 hours; it does not establish a one-piece archive for a longer stream. | Use planned segments and check current archive behavior in Live Control Room. |
| The channel is rejected for monetization despite having video rights | Rights clearance does not establish that content meets originality, authenticity, and reused-content requirements. | Review the channel as a whole and ensure its videos add meaningful original commentary, modification, or educational or entertainment value before applying or appealing. |
