Yes, a Raspberry Pi 4 Model B can plausibly send a prerecorded video feed to YouTube Live, but its published specification supports H.264 encoding only up to 1080p30—and that does not guarantee an uninterrupted 24/7 broadcast. You will need a working encoder setup, reliable power and internet, a plan to recover from interruptions, and the rights to every part of the video and audio. India-specific permissions for this exact use are not established by the official sources cited here, so check current guidance for your content and channel.
What the Pi 4B can—and cannot—do
Raspberry Pi’s product brief lists H.264 video encoding up to 1080p30 and Gigabit Ethernet for the Pi 4B. That makes a modest 1080p30 live feed a plausible target. Its listed H.265 4Kp60 capability is for decoding, not 4K encoding; do not treat it as evidence that the Pi can encode a 4K live stream. Raspberry Pi 4 Model B product brief
YouTube accepts live feeds sent by an encoder configured with the server URL and stream key shown in YouTube Studio. The official guidance does not establish a Pi-specific 24/7 uptime guarantee or prove that a particular operating system, encoder command, video format, cooling setup, or network connection will run continuously. Test your chosen files and encoder before relying on a long broadcast. Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder
Prepare the channel, video and Pi
Check live-stream access
- Verify the YouTube channel and confirm it has no live-stream restriction from the previous 90 days. YouTube says that first-time live-stream enablement may take up to 24 hours, so do not leave activation until the intended launch time. Get started with live streaming and Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder
- In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream and use the server URL and stream key provided for it in your encoder. Exact encoder menus and controls depend on the software you choose; the cited YouTube guide covers the general encoder workflow, not a Pi-specific configuration.
- Treat the stream key like a password. Keep it private, and replace it if it is exposed or used without your permission.
Choose a realistic output target and test it
Keep the intended output within the Pi 4B’s documented H.264 encoding capability: up to 1080p30. Actual results depend on the encoder, source files and complete setup. Test the chosen software and video locally, then preview the YouTube feed and monitor stream quality before committing to a continuous public run. YouTube recommends testing and monitoring rather than assuming a configured encoder will remain healthy.

Plan power and connectivity
- Raspberry Pi specifies a minimum 5 V, 3 A USB-C input; its getting-started documentation recommends a 15 W supply for the Pi 4B. Use a suitable, reliable supply rather than planning a continuous installation around marginal power. The cited specifications do not establish UPS runtime or make a UPS, fan, heatsink or storage upgrade mandatory for every setup. Raspberry Pi getting started documentation
- Prefer wired Ethernet where practical. The Pi has Gigabit Ethernet, but the connection’s real upload capacity depends on your location and internet plan. Measure it where the Pi will operate.
- YouTube recommends keeping upload bandwidth 20% above the stream’s bitrate. This is a general headroom recommendation, not a measured minimum for your particular video or a guarantee against network disruption. YouTube streaming tips
Make a prerecorded feed run continuously
The broad workflow is to use an encoder that can send your local video to YouTube, then configure a loop or playlist and prepare for failure recovery. The official sources establish the YouTube encoder workflow, but do not validate a specific Pi command, application or 24/7 recipe. Choose an encoder compatible with your operating system and files, and test the complete arrangement before going live.
- Prepare the content. Organize the video files you intend to loop or schedule, and confirm that the audio and video play correctly in your chosen encoder.
- Create the YouTube live event. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule the stream and retrieve its server URL and stream key. Confirm the channel is eligible and live streaming is enabled.
- Configure the encoder. Enter the YouTube server URL and stream key, select an output no higher than the Pi’s documented 1080p30 H.264 encoding capability, and set the encoder to play the file or playlist according to its own controls.
- Preview and check the feed. Start a test or preview, verify that YouTube receives the video and audio as expected, and watch for encoder, power or connection problems.
- Set up continuity and monitoring. Arrange how the playlist repeats or advances, how the encoder is restarted after a failure, and how you will notice if the stream stops. A loop by itself does not restore a dropped connection; recovery and monitoring are practical requirements for an unattended broadcast.
Copyright, Content ID and India-specific considerations
Use material you have the right to stream
YouTube’s live-stream terms place responsibility on the provider to hold the necessary rights for live content, including relevant music rights, and to comply with laws and regulatory requirements in the territory. Use original or properly licensed video, music and other material. YouTube livestream terms and conditions

Licensed material can still trigger a Content ID match. YouTube says a rights owner may need to allowlist your channel; a match may interrupt or terminate the live stream. If you plan to use third-party material, confirm Content ID handling and channel allowlisting with the rights holder before the broadcast. YouTube copyright issues with live streams
Do not assume Indian permissions from general platform guidance
YouTube’s terms require compliance with applicable laws and regulatory requirements in the territory, but the official sources cited here do not establish which India-specific licences, registrations or notifications might apply to a continuous YouTube live stream of prerecorded material. Requirements may depend on the channel and content. Check current India-specific official legal or regulator guidance for your circumstances; do not infer that permission is either required or waived from YouTube’s general terms alone.

What 24/7 means for viewers
A continuous stream is not necessarily fully rewindable. YouTube says DVR may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. That is a playback caveat, not a stated maximum permitted stream duration and not a guarantee that a particular 24/7 session structure will work. Avoid promising viewers they can rewind the entire broadcast. Turn on DVR on live streams
Common problems and what to check
- You cannot start a live stream: Check that the channel is verified, has no live-stream restriction from the previous 90 days, and has completed first-time live enablement. Activation can take up to 24 hours.
- YouTube receives no encoder feed: Recheck the server URL and stream key entered in the encoder, and confirm that the intended live event is active. Keep the key private.
- The stream drops during playback: Check the local internet connection and encoder status, then review your recovery plan. YouTube warns that network disruption can break a stream; the 20% upload headroom recommendation is not a promise of uninterrupted service.
- The video stutters or the encoder struggles: Check the source file and encoder settings, and test at or below the Pi’s documented H.264 encoding capability of 1080p30. The hardware specification does not prove performance for every application or file.
- The live stream is interrupted for a copyright match: Check whether any video or audio has a Content ID match. Contact the rights holder about channel allowlisting where you have permission to use the material.
- Viewers cannot rewind to the beginning: For streams longer than 12 hours, YouTube says DVR may be limited or unavailable. Do not treat a long stream as a complete viewer-accessible archive.
Run it on the Pi or move the stream to the cloud?
Running an encoder on the Pi gives you a local setup to configure and monitor, but the broadcast depends on the Pi, its power, the local network and your recovery arrangements. A cloud service is a different approach: YouTube’s encoder guidance describes Gyre as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 streaming of prerecorded videos, but the cited information does not establish its price, availability, compatibility details or any referral arrangement.
