To run prerecorded lofi video continuously on YouTube Live, send YouTube an encoded feed from a computer running an encoder such as OBS Studio, or use a cloud service that handles playout for you. Before starting, enable live streaming on an eligible channel and confirm you have the necessary rights to every track and visual. This guide covers the setup, loop design, rights checks, and common interruptions.
Before you set up the stream
Check channel eligibility and activation time
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days, and the minimum age for live streaming is 16. First-time live activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it before your planned launch. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance and encoder setup instructions.
Clear the rights to both audio and visuals
Use music and imagery for which you have the rights required for this use. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; a match can prompt a warning, replace the stream with a placeholder image, interrupt it, or terminate it. If you licensed third-party material, ask its owner to add your channel to the Content ID allowlist. A license by itself may not prevent an interruption if the channel has not been allowlisted. YouTube says claims on an archived live stream are made after the stream ends, if you choose to archive it. Read YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance.
Choose how the video will play
| Option | Where playback runs | What you manage | Cost information established here |
|---|---|---|---|
| Local encoder, such as OBS Studio | Your computer, which must remain available for this workflow. | You manage the computer, media, encoder, and connection to YouTube. | YouTube lists OBS as open-source software available at no charge. Computer costs depend on what you already own. |
| Cloud encoder | A provider’s cloud infrastructure. YouTube’s verified encoder list identifies Gyre as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 prerecorded-video streaming. | You rely on the selected provider’s current features and operation. | Pricing is not stated in the cited YouTube encoder guidance. Check the provider’s current terms. |
| StreamNeo | StreamNeo’s cloud service plays uploaded videos to YouTube Live. | Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and start the stream; the cloud handles the loop. | One flat price per slot regardless of uploaded quality, with daily through yearly terms shown below. |
YouTube notes that products on its verified encoder list are not made by YouTube. Assess any provider against your own workflow and current needs. OBS is an open-source local option; cloud playout shifts the ongoing computer and connection responsibility away from your home setup.

Set up a local OBS stream
YouTube receives an encoded live feed. Its encoder guidance covers connecting an encoder and starting the feed; the exact OBS media-source and playlist controls can vary by version, so check the current OBS Project YouTube streaming guide for interface details rather than relying on potentially stale button names.
- Enable live streaming. Verify the channel and enable live streaming in YouTube Studio ahead of time. Allow up to 24 hours for first activation.
- Create or select a YouTube stream. In YouTube Studio, choose Create → Go Live, then create a stream or select an existing one in Live Control Room.
- Connect OBS to YouTube. If OBS offers YouTube as a service, select it and follow its current connection flow. Otherwise, copy the server/stream URL and stream key shown by YouTube into the corresponding OBS stream settings. Treat the stream key like a password: do not publish or share it.
- Prepare the lofi output. Add the prerecorded video or playlist as the encoder’s video and audio output, and configure the source or playlist to repeat using the controls in your installed OBS version. Confirm the audio is present and the video is playing before going live. YouTube’s encoder instructions do not specify OBS’s current media-source loop controls.
- Start the encoder feed. Start streaming in OBS. Check Live Control Room to confirm YouTube receives the feed, then monitor the live stream after launch.

Monitor the broadcast and fix interruptions
YouTube does not receive the feed
Confirm the encoder is running and that you used the server URL and stream key for the intended YouTube stream. If this is the channel’s first live broadcast, activation may still be pending for up to 24 hours.
A copyright warning or interruption appears
Open YouTube Studio or Live Control Room and check the notice for the identified material. Remove or replace material you cannot use. If the content is licensed, ask the rights owner to allowlist your channel in Content ID; a live scan can interrupt the feed even when you have permission but are not allowlisted.

The loop stops or the computer becomes unavailable
For a local setup, check that the computer and encoder are still running and that the media source or playlist is configured to repeat. A local workflow depends on your computer and connection remaining available. A cloud workflow moves playout to the provider, but its features and operation remain provider-dependent.
