A scheduled YouTube event does not create or transmit a video feed: an encoder still has to send it. For a live camera, gameplay, or production, keep an encoder running on another device or hosted production setup. For prerecorded video, use a cloud service such as StreamNeo or suitable standalone hardware to play it while your computer is off.
First decide: live input or prerecorded video?
The crucial distinction is whether the stream must capture something happening now or can play files you have already made.

A cloud library service designed to play uploaded files is not automatically suitable for a live camera or gameplay feed. Choose a setup that handles the source you actually have.
Why scheduling a YouTube stream is not enough
Scheduling creates an upcoming event and watch page; it does not generate the program or keep an encoder online. YouTube’s encoder workflow requires an encoder to connect using the YouTube Live server URL and stream key. Once the encoder sends a preview, you may need to select Go live, depending on the scheduled stream’s settings and workflow. YouTube’s guidance covers scheduling, encoder connection, preview, and stream controls at YouTube’s scheduling and encoder setup instructions.

YouTube describes an encoder as software running on a computer or standalone hardware. If the computer that is encoding your program shuts down, the feed from that encoder stops; the scheduled event alone cannot keep it going.
For live camera, gameplay, or a live production
Keep the computer encoder running
If your encoder software captures a camera, game, or production on your computer, that computer must remain on and connected for the encoder to send the feed. Turning off the display is different from shutting down the machine. Check power and sleep settings so the computer does not sleep, and monitor the encoder and network connection during the broadcast.

Move encoding to equipment or a service that stays online
You can move the production and encoding workload to a separate always-on computer, an appropriate standalone hardware encoder, or a managed broadcast setup. Confirm that the option supports your live source, required resolution and encoding formats, and any monitoring or restart behavior you need. A prerecorded-video service is not a replacement for a live capture setup unless it explicitly supports that kind of input.

Other routes for prerecorded playback
Cloud streaming service
YouTube’s encoder directory describes Gyre as a cloud-based option for continuous prerecorded YouTube streaming without a dedicated PC. That directory establishes the intended use case, not independent proof of service reliability. Before choosing any hosted service, check its current YouTube support, looping and scheduling options, stream-duration limits, storage, monitoring and failure recovery, and total cost. Current prices and plan limits for alternatives are not established here.
Standalone hardware: AJA HELO Plus
YouTube’s encoder directory describes AJA HELO Plus as a standalone H.264 encoder and says its PlayToStream function can schedule prerecorded media and send it directly to YouTube Live without a computer. This is a specialized hardware route, not a universal solution for every live source. Verify current availability, supported formats, and the exact workflow with the manufacturer before buying.

Connect the encoder safely and confirm it is actually live
- Enable live streaming in advance. YouTube says first-time live-stream enablement may take up to 24 hours. Its getting-started guidance says the channel must be verified and must not have live-streaming restrictions in the prior 90 days. Check the current requirements in YouTube’s live-streaming setup guidance.
- Create or schedule the event in YouTube Studio. Scheduling prepares the event, but does not start an encoder or provide video by itself.
- Connect the encoder with the server URL and stream key. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or share it unnecessarily. If it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room.
- Wait for the preview and check the feed. Confirm the intended video and audio are present before going live. Review the specific stream’s auto-start and auto-stop settings rather than assuming scheduling controls them.
- Monitor the source and backup. YouTube recommends making a local recording as a backup. For unattended equipment or a hosted service, check what failure alerts and restart behavior it provides before depending on it.
What can go wrong, and how to respond

Do not rely on YouTube’s archive as your only recording
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams over 12 hours may not be captured at all. DVR rewind may also be limited or unavailable on streams longer than 12 hours, and viewers cannot rewind to before the stream began. If you need a complete copy, record a separate local or otherwise independent backup rather than treating a continuous broadcast as your archive.
