The playlist can repeat, but OBS still depends on your computer, encoder, and internet connection staying online.
Choose the right OBS source

OBS documents both source types and their looping options in its Media Sources guide; the Sources Guide notes that the VLC playlist source is available when VLC is installed.
Check YouTube channel eligibility before setup
YouTube’s current live-streaming guidance says a channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. The minimum age to livestream is 16. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before your planned stream. These are general YouTube requirements; the guidance cited here does not set out a separate India-specific OBS workflow or eligibility exception.
Prepare and add the podcast files
- Keep the files accessible. Store the podcast audio or video files locally where OBS can access them. OBS’s Media Source supports common formats including MP3 and MP4.
- For multiple files, install VLC. Match VLC’s bitness to OBS; OBS specifically calls for 64-bit VLC when OBS is 64-bit.
- Add the playlist source. In OBS, select the scene where the podcast should appear. In the Sources panel, choose the add (+) control and select VLC Video Source. Add the files and arrange them in playback order.
- Set the repeat behavior. In the source properties, leave Loop Playlist enabled to start the list again after its final item. Enable Shuffle Playlist only if you want a randomized order rather than a fixed sequence.
- For a single file instead, add Media Source, select the file, and enable Loop.
Keep playback going across scene changes
A VLC Video Source has a Visibility Behaviour setting that determines what happens when the source is hidden. The documented default is to stop playback while hidden and restart when visible. If the playlist should continue through scene changes, choose the continue-playing behavior if it is available in your installed OBS version. Check this setting during rehearsal; a looping playlist does not necessarily keep playing while its source is hidden.

Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- Open YouTube Studio and go to the Live Control Room. Create a stream or select the encoder stream you intend to use. YouTube’s encoder setup guide explains the stream creation process.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that stream. YouTube describes the key as the password and address used by your encoder; treat it as confidential.
- In OBS, open Settings > Stream, select YouTube as the service, and enter the stream URL and key. If using a YouTube account connection instead, follow the connection option shown in your installed OBS version.
- Apply the settings, then start streaming from OBS when ready. In the Live Control Room, wait for the incoming feed and use the preview before starting the public broadcast.
You can review stream details and key settings in YouTube’s live stream settings help. Never share the stream key publicly; anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to that destination.
Rehearse, monitor, and end the broadcast deliberately
- Use the YouTube preview to confirm the video appears and the audio is audible before making the event public.
- Let the playlist advance through at least one file transition and verify that it returns to the start after the last item.
- Monitor the live event for audio, video, and connection problems. YouTube recommends upload bandwidth headroom of about 20% above the total stream bitrate in its streaming tips.
- Remember that looping is a media-source setting, not a guarantee of an uninterrupted broadcast: OBS, the computer, the encoder, the network, and YouTube’s event must remain operational.
- When finished, stop streaming in OBS to end the encoder feed. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; do not assume that rule covers longer streams.
Clear rights for every podcast element
Before rebroadcasting, make sure you have the rights needed for all audio and video in every file, including music, clips, artwork, and guest contributions where applicable. YouTube’s livestream terms require the broadcaster to have the necessary rights for exploitation of live content on Google services worldwide, including relevant music licensing rights, and to comply with applicable laws and regulations. Owning or downloading an episode does not by itself establish permission to livestream it. The cited terms do not determine whether a particular podcast is cleared for rebroadcast in India; ask the rights holder or qualified local counsel about the specific content and permissions.

Troubleshooting common playlist problems
- The VLC Video Source option is missing: Install VLC and restart OBS. If OBS is 64-bit, install 64-bit VLC.
- The playlist stops after the final file: Open the VLC Video Source properties and confirm Loop Playlist is enabled.
- Playback stops when changing scenes: Check Visibility Behaviour. The documented default stops playback when the source is hidden; use a continue behavior if available in your version.
- The stream is not appearing in YouTube: Confirm the correct stream URL and key are in OBS, that the key belongs to the selected Live Control Room stream, and that OBS has started sending the encoder feed. Keep the key private.
- YouTube preview has no audible podcast: Check the file’s audio in OBS and listen to the Live Control Room preview before going public.
- The stream drops or quality degrades: Check the upload connection and bitrate, and preserve the upload headroom recommended by YouTube. Playlist looping cannot recover a failed computer or network connection.
