To loop several videos continuously on YouTube Live, run OBS Studio on a computer and use its VLC Video source as the playlist player. Install VLC first, add your files in order, turn on Loop Playlist, and leave Shuffle Playlist off for a predictable sequence. Then send OBS’s stream to YouTube using the stream URL and key from YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. The same documented workflow applies in India; the key India-specific consideration is having rights to every video and soundtrack you broadcast.
Before you start
- A verified YouTube channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days is eligible to enable live streaming, according to YouTube Help. If live streaming is not enabled, resolve that first.
- Install OBS Studio and VLC media player on a computer. OBS’s VLC Video source depends on VLC being installed. OBS documents the source options and controls.
- Prepare the local video files you want to play and confirm that you have permission to stream both their video and audio.
Set up the playlist in OBS
- Open OBS and create or select a scene for the broadcast.
- In the scene’s Sources box, select + and add VLC Video. If that option is missing, install VLC and restart OBS.
- Open the VLC Video source’s properties and add the video files to its playlist in the order you want viewers to see them.
- Keep Shuffle Playlist off for a fixed sequence. Turn Loop Playlist on so playback returns to the beginning after the last file.
- Check the scene preview and listen for audio. If a file has no usable audio or video, fix or replace it before going live. Test a transition from one playlist item to the next.
OBS’s ordinary Media Source is intended for a single local file and has its own loop control. For several files played in sequence, use VLC Video and its playlist loop instead. This is different from YouTube HLS’s rolling ingestion playlist, which is a transport mechanism—not the playlist viewers see.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Create → Go live to enter the Live Control Room. Create or select an encoder stream. YouTube’s encoder instructions explain how to find the stream URL and stream key.
- In OBS, open Settings → Stream. Select the YouTube service if available, then enter the stream key and, if the interface asks for it, the stream URL supplied by YouTube. Treat the key like a password: anyone with access to it may be able to send video to your channel.
- Start streaming from OBS and wait for the incoming signal to appear in YouTube’s Live Control Room preview. Check that the video and audio are correct before starting the public broadcast.
- When the stream is ready, start the live broadcast in YouTube Studio if the selected workflow requires it. Confirm that the watch page opens and check it on a phone as well as on the streaming computer.
- Monitor the broadcast and playlist transitions. When the event is over, end the broadcast in YouTube Studio and stop the encoder in OBS.
For a basic setup, use the encoder protocol and settings offered in YouTube Studio rather than changing transport options without a reason. YouTube also documents HLS ingestion; its HLS guidance notes that HLS has higher latency than a continuous RTMP feed. HLS’s rolling playlist is not how you arrange your local video files.
Test before the public broadcast
A test stream helps catch problems before viewers arrive. YouTube’s live streaming tips recommend checking the Live Control Room preview, monitoring audio and video, testing the watch page on mobile, and monitoring the feed during the event.

- Confirm that the preview shows the intended first playlist item and that audio is audible.
- Watch a file transition and verify that the next item starts.
- Check the watch page on a phone to confirm playback works for viewers.
- Keep an eye on the Live Control Room and OBS while streaming; stop the encoder after the broadcast ends.
Copyright and live-stream rules in India
YouTube requires live content to comply with its Community Guidelines and terms. Its Livestream terms and conditions say creators represent and warrant that they have the necessary rights to use live content on Google services worldwide, including music licensing rights. You are responsible for confirming that your permissions cover streaming, not merely owning a copy or being able to play a file locally.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches. If it detects matching content, it may replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate it if the match continues. Even when you have a licence, the rights owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist, according to YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams.

- Check rights for every video, soundtrack, and other included material before adding it to the playlist.
- Do not assume that a locally playable file, a purchase, or a licence for another use automatically grants live-streaming rights.
- If you have permission but Content ID still interrupts the broadcast, contact the rights owner about allowlisting your channel.
YouTube’s reviewed guidance does not specify a separate India-only OBS configuration for this workflow. Follow the same setup steps, while ensuring the content and permissions comply with applicable requirements where you and your audience are located.
