Adding an episode to a YouTube podcast does not add it to an ongoing livestream or keep that broadcast running. A YouTube podcast is a playlist of full-length video episodes; a livestream is a separate, real-time broadcast. To keep your podcast’s episode list current, add videos in YouTube Studio or connect an RSS feed. YouTube lists India as a supported location for RSS podcast delivery, based on the channel owner’s location.
First, distinguish a podcast playlist from a livestream
YouTube defines a podcast show as a playlist, with video episodes in that playlist. Adding an episode updates the podcast’s episode collection; it does not insert the episode into a live broadcast. YouTube’s live-stream guidance covers configuring and managing a broadcast, and organizing its archive after it ends, but does not document switching episode content within an ongoing stream. So if you mean a broadcast that must continue without stopping while its content changes, the official guidance cited here does not establish a method for doing that.
For a podcast series, the practical meaning of “keep it going” is usually to publish each new episode and keep the podcast playlist in the intended order. YouTube recommends newest-to-oldest for an episodic show and oldest-to-newest for a serial show. Keep full episodes together rather than mixing in clips, unrelated shows, or videos from other channels. See YouTube’s podcast setup instructions and podcast discovery tips.
Choose how to add new episodes
| Option | Best fit | How episodes are added | Control and considerations |
|---|---|---|---|
| Add videos in Studio | A video episode you upload or a video already on your channel | You add each episode to the podcast yourself. | Choose videos individually and edit the podcast’s episode order in Studio. |
| Connect an RSS feed | An audio-first show that publishes episodes through an RSS feed | YouTube creates static-image videos using the show’s art; new feed episodes can upload automatically. | Set default visibility and select which episodes to deliver. Check the initial uploads and take care with duplicates, corrections, and deletions. |
Both approaches update the podcast’s episodes; neither is documented as a way to change what is playing in a livestream that is already underway.

Add an episode manually in YouTube Studio
- In YouTube Studio, open Content → Podcasts.
- Select the podcast you want to update, then choose Add videos.
- Upload a new video or select an existing video on your channel, and add it to the podcast.
- Save your changes. On the podcast details page, edit the default video order if needed: newest-to-oldest suits episodic shows; oldest-to-newest suits a serial show.

Automate audio-first uploads with an RSS feed in India
YouTube’s RSS delivery is available in India. Eligibility is based on the channel owner’s location, not simply the location of a viewer. With a connected feed, YouTube uses the show’s art to create static-image videos for selected audio episodes. When you add a new episode to the feed, YouTube can upload it to your channel automatically and notify eligible subscribers. Availability and interface details can change; see YouTube’s RSS delivery location list and RSS delivery instructions.

- In YouTube Studio, open the details for the podcast you want to connect to RSS and follow the RSS-feed connection flow described in YouTube’s delivery instructions.
- If the podcast already has episodes on YouTube, select feed episodes beginning after the most recent episode already published there. This helps avoid duplicate uploads.
- Review the first RSS deliveries: they are initially private during setup. Check each upload’s visibility, copyright status, and monetization issues before publishing.
- Choose the default visibility for future RSS videos: private, unlisted, or public. You can use the feed selection and visibility controls to determine what is delivered and how it appears.
- For sponsorships or host-read promotions, disclose branded content with YouTube’s branded-content setting and follow the applicable policies.
Episode order and dates
YouTube sorts feed episodes by their RSS release date when one is available; otherwise, it uses the YouTube publish date. YouTube does not verify the RSS release date, so make sure your feed’s dates reflect the order you intend. For a show that already has YouTube episodes, selecting only episodes after the latest one on YouTube also helps prevent overlap.
Corrections and deletions
You cannot update the audio of an RSS-ingested episode in place after it has been published. To correct it, use Re-upload from RSS feed in Studio. YouTube creates a new video and makes the old one private. Also, deleting an episode from YouTube does not remove it from the source feed: if it remains in the RSS feed, YouTube may upload it again.

If you mean a continuous live broadcast
Do not assume that adding a video to a podcast playlist, or publishing it through RSS, changes a live broadcast. YouTube’s documentation describes live-stream settings and controls at Manage live stream settings. It also says a stream archive is uploaded to the channel by default and can be organized with highlights into playlists after the event at Promote your live stream. Those instructions concern the broadcast and its archive, not inserting a new podcast episode while a stream continues.
