They are roles for Horde Siege, not classes ordered by an official best-to-worst ranking. “Ranked” refers to a separate Versus playlist progression system. Here’s what each class does and how to choose one for your squad.
All four Gears of War: E-Day classes at a glance
The Coalition’s July 30, 2026 multiplayer overview describes four classes for Horde Siege. Each has a starting loadout, combat bonus, unlock progression and Tactical Gear ability. The overview characterizes their jobs and abilities, but does not publish a comparative class tier list or class performance statistics.
| Class | Combat range and job | Tactical Gear | Stated class bonus |
|---|---|---|---|
| Assault | Flexible midrange combat across varied situations | Sonic Disruptor stuns incoming enemy waves, especially around defended objectives | Increased damage while in cover |
| Breacher | Close-range frontline pushes | Adrenaline Injector refills health and reduces incoming damage | Improved resistance to status effects and melee damage |
| Marksman | Precision damage at longer sightlines | Pulse Drone tags Locust units for the player and squad | Improved critical-hit damage |
| Medic | Midrange support focused on revives | Stim Vaporizer heals and revives nearby Gears, including downed soldiers from other squads | Faster health regeneration |
What each class does
Assault: flexible fighting from cover
Assault is the adaptable choice for players who want to contribute in varied situations at midrange. The Sonic Disruptor can stun incoming waves, with particular use near defended objectives, while the cover-damage bonus rewards fighting from cover.
Breacher: close-range pressure
Breacher is built for frontline, close-range engagements. The Adrenaline Injector supports a push by restoring health and reducing incoming damage; the resistance bonus adds protection against status effects and melee damage.

Which class is best?
The official overview does not identify a strongest class or provide measured comparisons such as win rates or pick rates. The useful choice depends on the mission, the squad’s needs and how you prefer to fight: Assault for flexible cover combat, Breacher for close pushes, Marksman for precision and tagging, or Medic for healing and revives. Those roles are not evidence of a universal best-to-worst order, and balance can change over time.
Nor does the overview prescribe a fixed squad composition. The Coalition says, “While our classes are meant to complement one another; there is no ‘right’ way to set up a squad.” It explicitly notes that players can mix classes freely, including a squad of four Breachers.

Does E-Day Ranked use these classes?
No: the class descriptions apply to Horde Siege, while Ranked is a Versus playlist progression system. The Coalition describes Horde Siege as a 12-player, wave-based survival mode in which multiple squads take on missions and emergent challenges on maps set in Kalona, then face a final fight and extraction. Class selection happens before each Horde Siege mission.
In Versus, playlists are divided into Ranked and Social. Each Ranked playlist has its own rank and skill rating. After placement matches, players receive a Skill Division and a Rank. The developer describes Skill Division as a relative matchmaking measure that can fluctuate; Rank Rating tracks ladder progress and changes with match results and performance, with points gained for wins and lost for defeats. These systems rank players in playlists, not Horde Siege classes.
