As of October 2, 2026, Braves manager Walt Weiss was reported to be optimistic that the outfielder would be available against the Dodgers, but the reports available did not establish that Atlanta named him to its active roster.
Why Thomas was a possibility
Thomas was recovering from a left intercostal strain that had sidelined him since September 7, according to MLB’s September 30 Braves injury update. Before Game 2 of the Wild Card Series, he took batting practice on the field. MLB said there was a chance he could be ready for the Division Series.
On September 29, Atlanta activated Thomas from the 10-day injured list and placed him on the taxi squad. That move reflected roster and recovery progress, but taxi-squad placement did not confirm a spot on the NLDS active roster.
What Atlanta had said by October 2
Thomas missed the Wild Card round. In an October 2 report, Field Level Media said Weiss was optimistic that Thomas would be available for the best-of-five NLDS against the Dodgers. That was a reported assessment of his availability, not an official announcement that he had been selected. The report did not provide a direct Thomas-specific quote from Weiss.

Field Level Media reported Thomas’s 2026 line as a .224 batting average, 11 home runs and 40 RBIs in 118 games. That season statistic gives context to the player, but does not establish whether he would be healthy enough to play or make the postseason roster. Field Level Media’s report also discussed pitcher Bryce Elder; Weiss’s direct quote in that story concerned Elder, not Thomas.
Possibility is not confirmation
- Medical progress: Field batting practice and the manager’s reported optimism supported the possibility that Thomas could be ready.
- Roster status: Activation from the injured list and taxi-squad placement did not by themselves put him on the NLDS active roster.
- Selection: The reports available as of October 2 did not establish that Atlanta officially named him to the roster or that he appeared in the series.
Because postseason readiness and roster decisions can change quickly, a later official Braves roster announcement or game record is needed to establish what happened after October 2.
