That steep fall may make the stock look like a bargain, but a lower price alone does not show that it is undervalued. The investment question is whether DraftKings can turn growing customer activity and betting volume into stronger, more durable margins and earnings.
The evidence is mixed. DraftKings maintained its 2026 revenue and Adjusted EBITDA guidance after its second-quarter results, and its payer base and sports volume grew. But Q2 revenue declined, sports margins narrowed, Adjusted EBITDA fell sharply and the company reported a net loss. Those results make a recovery possible, not assured.
Why is DraftKings stock down 48%?
The 48% decline is a dated market-price comparison, not a company-reported performance metric: TIKR reported that DraftKings (NASDAQ: DKNG) closed at $18.59 on October 2, 2026, down 48% since early January. Share prices move, so the figure is specific to that endpoint.
DraftKings’ latest reported quarter offers reasons investors may be concerned, but it does not establish why the stock fell by a particular amount. The company said Q2 revenue was pressured by customer-friendly sports outcomes and increased promotional reinvestment tied to acquiring customers across its Sportsbook and Predictions offerings. Those are management’s explanations for the quarter, not proof that any single factor caused the share-price decline.

What did DraftKings report in Q2 2026?
Customer activity increased, but revenue per payer and sports economics weakened. DraftKings reported 3.6 million average monthly unique payers (MUPs), up approximately 9% year over year, while average revenue per monthly unique payer fell approximately 13% to $132. Sports consumer volume increased 14.5%, yet revenue did not rise with those activity measures.

The figures are from DraftKings’ Q2 2026 release and Form 10-Q for the quarter ended June 30, 2026. Adjusted EBITDA is a company-defined non-GAAP measure; it is not the same as net income, cash flow or cash available to shareholders. The separate net-loss result matters because an adjusted operating metric does not erase the bottom-line loss.

Is there a case that the decline is a discount?
There is a plausible recovery case, but it depends on execution rather than the share-price decline itself. DraftKings has grown substantially over the past three full years: revenue was $3.6654 billion in 2023, $4.7677 billion in 2024 and $6.0545 billion in 2025, according to its 2025 Form 10-K. In Q2 2026, both average monthly unique payers and sports consumer volume were higher than a year earlier.
Management also kept its full-year outlook after reporting Q2. Its August 6, 2026 guidance called for $6.5 billion to $6.9 billion in FY2026 revenue and $700 million to $900 million in Adjusted EBITDA. Those are forward-looking management estimates, not results or guarantees. Hitting the range would support the view that Q2 was a difficult quarter rather than a lasting deterioration; missing it would raise questions about the durability of the business model and the outlook.

Market access provides room to operate but is not, by itself, a forecast of future growth. In its August Q2 release, DraftKings said mobile sports betting was live in 27 states, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico, representing approximately 53% of the U.S. population; iGaming was live in five states, representing approximately 11%. Its sportsbook and iGaming products were also live in Canadian provinces representing approximately 51% of the Canadian population after the Alberta launch. These are company-reported footprint figures dated to that release, not a jurisdiction-by-jurisdiction legal-status map or a measure of future profitability.
What makes the stock a danger?
The central risk is that more customers and betting volume may not translate into enough revenue and profit. Average revenue per payer fell even as the payer count rose, while DraftKings attributed Q2 pressure to sports outcomes and promotional reinvestment. Sports results can vary from quarter to quarter, but one quarter does not establish how quickly margins will normalize or how much ongoing promotions will cost.

Costs also deserve attention. In the six months ended June 30, 2026, sales and marketing expense rose 25.6% year over year, compared with 5.8% growth in revenue over the same period, according to the Form 10-Q. If customer acquisition spending continues to grow faster than sales without producing better retention or monetization, the company could struggle to convert its scale into improved earnings.
Financing is another consideration, though the reported cash balance does not alone determine the risk. At June 30, 2026, DraftKings had $983.9 million in cash and cash equivalents and $1.260 billion in convertible notes, net of issuance costs. The notes mature in March 2028. The company said it believed its cash was sufficient for at least 12 months of current working-capital and capital-expenditure needs; that statement is not a promise that future financing or repayment will be straightforward.

What should investors watch next?
The most useful test is whether activity growth starts producing better monetization and profit. A single recovery in sports margin would not settle the question, because outcomes can fluctuate. Look for a pattern across subsequent reports and compare results with the company’s own guidance.
- Payers and sports volume: Are customer counts and betting activity continuing to expand?
- Revenue per payer: Does average revenue recover or stabilize, rather than continuing to fall as the payer base grows?
- Sports margin: Does the margin improve over time, while recognizing that quarterly outcomes are volatile?
- Promotions and expenses: Are promotional reinvestment, cost of revenue and marketing spending producing revenue growth that can support profitability?
- Guidance conversion: Does DraftKings deliver its FY2026 revenue and Adjusted EBITDA ranges, and does adjusted earnings progress also show up in reported net income and cash generation?
- Market and regulatory conditions: How do competition, gaming taxes, jurisdictional access and prediction-market rules affect growth and costs?
There is no reliable valuation multiple or intrinsic-value estimate established here. Calling DKNG “cheap” would require a dated share count and market capitalization alongside explicit earnings or cash-flow assumptions. Analyst price targets are also omitted because no consistent primary consensus estimate is established.
