Online Trading Platform Market Forecast: Mordor Projects $18.18 Billion by 2031

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Mordor Intelligence estimates the global online trading platform market at $11.65 billion in 2025 and forecasts $18.18 billion by 2031, a 7.66% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) over 2026–2031. The forecast supports a story of expanding digital access, but it does not establish that mobile apps are already the primary way retail investors trade: the cited market figures do not include a comparable mobile-use share.

What is the online trading platform market forecast?

Mordor Intelligence’s 2026 estimate puts the market at $12.57 billion in 2026, rising from $11.65 billion in 2025 to a projected $18.18 billion in 2031. The company says its estimates use a proprietary framework updated with data and insights available in 2026. They are a publisher’s market estimate and forecast, not an audited total or a universally accepted measure of industry revenue. The public report page does not provide enough detail to reproduce the estimate independently.

The 2031 figure is a forecast, not a measurement of revenue already earned. Mordor’s market estimate and the underlying platform activity also should not be confused with securities trading volume: one concerns the value assigned to the platform market, while the other measures trades.

Why do market forecasts differ?

Forecasts from different publishers should be compared by their own base years, end years, definitions and methods, rather than treated as competing measurements of an identical period.

Publisher and publication date 2025 estimate 2026 estimate Forecast endpoint Forecast CAGR
Mordor Intelligence, 2026 $11.65 billion $12.57 billion $18.18 billion by 2031 7.66% for 2026–2031
Fortune Business Insights, 2026 $10.82 billion $11.57 billion $18.50 billion by 2034 6.00% for 2026–2034

Both forecasts are in US dollars, but Fortune’s endpoint is three years later. Its $18.50 billion 2034 projection is not a direct alternative to Mordor’s $18.18 billion 2031 forecast. Each publisher’s page presents its own estimate; the figures should not be blended or used to infer an individual broker’s revenue or investment performance.

What do the segment figures say—and what do they not say?

Mordor’s 2025 breakdown points to retail participation and cloud infrastructure as important parts of its market estimate. These figures describe application and deployment segments, not the share of trading carried out on smartphones.

  • Retail investors: 69.59% of the application segment in 2025; Mordor forecasts 8.43% CAGR for this segment through 2031.
  • Cloud deployment: 63.42% of the deployment segment in 2025; Mordor forecasts 8.51% CAGR for cloud deployment through 2031.

Those categories answer different questions: “retail investors” identifies a user/application segment, while “cloud deployment” describes how a platform is deployed. Neither is a mobile-interface usage measure, so neither substantiates a claim that mobile is the main trading channel.

Is mobile becoming the front door for retail investors?

Mobile adoption is a plausible part of the market’s growth narrative, but the available market estimates do not quantify a comparable mobile share. They do not establish what proportion of platform users, sessions, orders, or revenue comes through mobile apps, nor whether mobile has overtaken web or desktop access.

A separate statistic offers context for retail participation, not proof of mobile adoption. In a 2022 filing, Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing said retail investors represented approximately 47.4% of global securities-market trading volume in 2021, up from 39.6% in 2017; the filing projected 48.8% for 2026. That is trading volume—not online-platform market revenue or mobile use—and the 2026 figure was a projection made in 2022, not a current observation.

Which regions lead or are growing fastest?

Mordor estimates that North America accounted for 33.87% of market revenue in 2025, making it the largest region in its analysis. It forecasts Asia-Pacific to be the fastest-growing region, with a 9.03% CAGR through 2031. The first figure is a regional revenue share for 2025; the second is a growth forecast, not a current market share.

How to read the $18.18 billion headline

  • Treat $18.18 billion as Mordor Intelligence’s forecast for 2031, not an observed current market total.
  • Keep market revenue separate from securities trading volume, and retail application share separate from mobile usage.
  • Compare forecasts only after checking publisher, market definition, base year, endpoint, CAGR period and estimation method.
  • Use the regional and segment figures as parts of Mordor’s framework, not as evidence of mobile’s share or a prediction of any broker’s results.
