McTavish’s goal put St. Louis ahead to stay.
How the Blues built their 4-0 win
According to the Associated Press’s Oct. 3 game report, McTavish wore No. 83 and scored 94 seconds into his first game with St. Louis. AP described it as the fifth-quickest season-opening goal in Blues franchise history; that historical ranking is attributed to the report.
Dalibor Dvorsky added a second-period goal. Jimmy Snuggerud and Pius Suter sealed the result with empty-net goals in the final 2½ minutes. Dallas goaltender Jake Oettinger made 20 saves, while Hofer’s 25 saves earned him his ninth career shutout, AP reported. Read the Associated Press game report republished by ABC News.
What McTavish’s debut means in context
AP reported that St. Louis acquired McTavish from Anaheim in a June trade for first-round picks Nos. 15 and 29. His goal arrived immediately in his first game with his new club, giving the Blues an early lead in the opener.

The AP account also said Dallas’s season-opening winning streak, dating to 2019, ended at six games, and that the Stars were shut out in a home opener for the first time since moving to Dallas before the 1993-94 season. Those historical details are claims in AP’s report.
Other notable events from the opener
AP reported that Blues defenseman Brandon Carlo received a game misconduct for kneeing early in the third period after Roope Hintz went to the ice; Hintz returned a few minutes later. Alexey Toropchenko left early in the second period with an apparent right-shoulder injury. These are descriptions of events during the game, not medical diagnoses or updates on either player’s current status.
