PepsiCo has the more favorable disclosed 2026 growth outlook, while Kraft Heinz faces a more difficult near-term recovery. That makes PepsiCo the stronger business on the available operating outlook—not automatically the better stock to buy. Without comparable, same-date valuation and cash-flow data, and with PepsiCo’s February forecast not verified against its Q2 report here, there is not enough information for a price-aware winner.
What the 2026 outlook says
The companies are not interchangeable consumer-goods businesses: PepsiCo spans beverages and snacks, while Kraft Heinz is more concentrated in packaged foods. Their reported growth measures also differ, so treat the figures below as management outlooks rather than a like-for-like forecast comparison.

These are different measures: Kraft Heinz’s sales and operating-income ranges are declines, while PepsiCo’s are growth; EPS is adjusted at Kraft Heinz and core constant-currency at PepsiCo. They are management forecasts, not guaranteed outcomes. PepsiCo’s February release also notes that its guidance excludes some GAAP effects the company said it could not predict.
Kraft Heinz: reported sales rose, but underlying indicators weakened
In its May 6, 2026 Q1 release, Kraft Heinz reported net sales of $6.047 billion, up 0.8% year over year, while organic net sales declined 0.4%. Price contributed 0.8 percentage points, but volume/mix fell 1.2 percentage points. Adjusted operating income was $1.058 billion, down 11.8%, and adjusted EPS was $0.58, down 6.5% year over year.

The contrast between reported and organic sales matters: the positive reported figure should not be read as proof that underlying demand improved. The volume/mix decline and lower adjusted earnings make the full-year recovery targets especially important to watch.
What management says it is trying to fix
Kraft Heinz says it plans to invest about $600 million incrementally in marketing, sales, research and development, product superiority, and price. The investment is intended to support a return to profitable growth, but it does not remove the near-term risk in the company’s own declining outlook. CEO Steve Cahillane said: “Our goal is to ultimately deliver profitable growth through volume and market share recovery, while continuing to deliver strong Free Cash Flow.”

The company’s FY2025 Form 10-K describes about $25 billion in 2025 net sales and eight consumer-driven product platforms. Scale and familiar brands do not, on their own, establish that volume will recover or that the investment will earn an adequate return.
PepsiCo: a growth forecast, with a recency caveat
PepsiCo’s February 2026 forecast is more encouraging than Kraft Heinz’s stated full-year outlook: organic revenue and core constant-currency EPS were both expected to grow. But PepsiCo’s investor earnings index lists Q2 2026 results, and the figures and any guidance changes from that report are not established here. Treat the February forecast as an earlier management estimate, not confirmed current guidance.

PepsiCo announced a 4% increase in its annualized dividend to $5.92 per share in February 2026, effective with the payment expected in June 2026. The company described it as its 54th consecutive annual per-share increase. A long record of increases is useful context, but it does not establish future dividend safety; investors also need current cash generation, debt, and payout information.
The Kraft Heinz separation is paused, not an active catalyst
Kraft Heinz announced a plan on September 2, 2025, to separate into two publicly traded companies. The company paused work on that plan on February 11, 2026. Its FY2025 Form 10-K describes any possible restart as conditional, including on board approval and other customary conditions. The separation should therefore not be treated as an imminent event or as a reason to buy KHC on the assumption it will proceed.

What this comparison cannot tell you about value
A company with stronger expected growth is not necessarily the better stock at any price. To decide whether PEP or KHC offers better value, investors need share prices from the same date and comparable valuation measures based on current or normalized earnings and cash flow. Those figures are not established here, so neither stock can responsibly be called cheap or expensive.
The same gap applies to income and financial risk. The available figures do not provide a same-period comparison of operating cash flow, free cash flow after capital spending, net debt, interest expense, refinancing exposure, dividend yield, or payout burden. Those measures help show whether a dividend is supported by cash and how much room each company has to invest, repay debt, or withstand weaker results.

Historical returns are context, not a forecast
PepsiCo’s FY2025 annual report shows that $100 invested at year-end 2020, with dividends reinvested, was worth $113 at year-end 2025. On the same basis, the S&P 500 was $196 and PepsiCo’s weighted industry-group benchmark was $111. PepsiCo cautions that past stock-price performance is not necessarily indicative of future performance. This five-year comparison describes a past period; it does not establish which stock will perform better from a 2026 purchase date.
Which investor might prefer each stock?
PepsiCo may fit better if you prioritize
- A disclosed growth outlook rather than a forecast of declining organic sales and adjusted operating income.
- Exposure to both beverages and snacks rather than a more concentrated packaged-food portfolio.
- A regular dividend, while still checking current coverage, valuation, and debt before investing.
Kraft Heinz may fit better if you are willing to underwrite
- A volume and market-share recovery that the company says it is working to deliver.
- The risk that incremental investment may not produce the intended demand or earnings improvement.
- A case based on your own valuation work, rather than on the paused separation plan as an assumed catalyst.
These are distinctions in business outlook and risk, not personalized recommendations. The right choice depends on your goals, time horizon, risk capacity, and the price you would pay.
