The 2026 Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe is scheduled for Sunday, 4 October at ParisLongchamp. France Galop’s 2 October draw notice lists 16 runners; the notes below follow that official racecard order and reflect reports published before the race, not a prediction of the result. Check the latest card for non-runners, rider changes and race-day going.
Race details and declared field
The Racing Post racecard describes the Arc as a Group 1 turf race for three-year-olds and older, over 1m4f. Geldings are excluded. Its listed weights are 59.5kg for older colts, 58kg for older fillies, 56.5kg for three-year-old colts and 55kg for three-year-old fillies; the card also states a 6lb weight-for-age allowance for three-year-olds against older horses and a 1.5kg allowance for fillies and mares. Consult the live card for the applicable conditions.
France Galop’s official draw notice lists the 16 horses below. The rider names for Minnie Hauk, Benvenuto Cellini and Diamond Necklace were not supplied in that notice. Racing Post separately listed William Buick, Ryan Moore and Christophe Soumillon, respectively; verify those names against a current racecard.

Horse-by-horse guide
1. Daryz (stall 5)
The defending champion returns after winning the 2025 Arc. The Guardian notes his previous victory and draw; Racing Post’s Keith Melrose points to his successful season and recent trial. Trainer Francis-Henri Graffard said he prefers good ground, where Daryz can produce his turn of foot. That preference is relevant if conditions suit, but does not guarantee a repeat.

2. Saddadd (stall 9)
Racing Post notes his Group 1 win in Germany and limited experience at the Arc distance. Trainer Roger Varian sees room for further progress, while acknowledging the scale of the task: Saddadd needs a clear career best. The Guardian likewise presents the Arc as a tougher assignment after his recent success.
3. Chestnut Rocket (stall 2)
The Guardian reports that he finished a close second to Al Aasy in a Deauville Group 2, a career-best effort. Racing Post frames him as a long-priced outsider, while trainer Alicja Karkosa says the preparation has gone well and hopes for a respectable finish. Those are differing assessments, not settled measures of his chance.
4. Admire Terra (stall 12)
The Guardian reports a third in the spring Tenno Sho, half a length behind the winner, and notes that he is still seeking a first Group 1 victory. Racing Post views him as an interesting Japanese challenger. Trainer Yasuo Tomomichi said the team prepared in Japan and selected a horse they believe can adapt to Longchamp.

5. Meisho Tabaru (stall 13)
France Galop’s entry announcement records his 2025 Takarazuka Kinen win; the Guardian notes that he repeated that success. His wide draw has prompted tactical questions: Racing Post questions whether his forward racing style will suit from stall 13. That is an analyst’s concern, not a certain outcome.
6. Arrow Eagle (stall 14)
Racing Post reports that he was sixth in the previous Arc and later won the Prix Royal-Oak, noting softer ground in connection with those efforts. The Guardian identifies this as trainer Jean-Claude Rouget’s final runner. The record gives context, but neither past placing nor ground history ensures a particular performance this time.
7. Bay City Roller (stall 15)
The Guardian recounts Group 1 wins including the Coronation Cup, whose Epsom success came on rain-softened ground. Racing Post reports that connections had concerns about the ground being insufficiently soft, while trainer George Scott described Bay City Roller as admirable and tough and said he deserved to take his chance. The ground concern and the trainer’s confidence are distinct considerations.

8. Minnie Hauk (stall 10)
France Galop lists Minnie Hauk as the 2025 Arc runner-up. Racing Post describes a mixed sequence of ratings since that close placing and quotes Aidan O’Brien saying she had dealt with corns during the year but was in good form. The reported issue is a trainer’s account of her season, not confirmation of a current diagnosis.
9. Kalpana (stall 6)
The Guardian and Racing Post discuss her previous Arc appearance and recent form, but place different emphasis on her prospects. Juddmonte racing manager Barry Mahon called the draw workable and said she would need luck in running. Any ratings or prospect assessments in the guides are opinions; keep them separate from her recorded results.

Racing Post notes her Prix Vermeille win. Joint-trainer Thady Gosden said she had progressed through the season and handled the course and distance, while the guide’s writer was more cautious about the strength of her form. The win and the differing assessments offer context without resolving how she will fare against this field.

11. Varandir (stall 4)
Racing Post describes Varandir as an improving three-year-old after his Prix Niel win, a principal Arc trial. Trainer Francis-Henri Graffard said, “We saw a real change in him over the summer,” referring to physical and mental improvement. Both the improvement label and its significance are assessments from the trainer and guide.
12. Benvenuto Cellini (stall 1)
Racing Post points to his Irish Derby win and subsequent King George and Prix Niel efforts. Aidan O’Brien said the horse was in good form and had recovered from a disappointing trial. The official draw puts him in stall 1; any claim about how that affects tactics is analysis, not a known consequence.
13. Bright Light (stall 8)
Racing Post says Bright Light has placed in Group 1 races. Trainer Andreas Suborics acknowledged that his form did not match the leading Arc credentials but argued softer ground could help. That ground-based case is the trainer’s view; the guide writer’s lower rating is an independent opinion.

14. Maltese Cross (stall 11)
Racing Post describes a Group 1 win and a Derby second, while raising a possible concern about the draw. Trainer William Haggas said Maltese Cross had improved physically and that his work was satisfactory. Stall 11 is a factor to consider, not a verdict on his chances.
15. Thundering On (stall 3)
Racing Post’s closing prediction places Thundering On second behind Daryz. Treat that as the guide’s tip rather than a consensus view or a verified probability. Its runner note also includes an assessment from the horse’s connections.
16. Diamond Necklace (stall 16)
Racing Post reports four Group 1 wins and quotes trainer Aidan O’Brien saying, “Diamond Necklace is in good form but it does look like a tough draw.” Stall 16 is the widest listed gate, and the trainer flags it as a challenge; it does not make success impossible.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to read the draw and form together
The field brings together several different kinds of evidence: prior Arc performance, recent Group 1 results or trial form, experience near the 1m4f distance, and comments about ground or readiness. A stall number is a starting position, not a forecast of how a race will unfold. Likewise, trainer comments describe a horse’s condition or perceived strengths, while guide ratings and tips remain opinions.

What the entry numbers mean
France Galop reported 73 initial entries in May 2026, including 27 French, 21 British, 12 Irish, seven Japanese and six German entries. Those are entry counts by country, not the final starters by training country. The authority also described eight designated Arc Races whose winners could receive a wildcard, subject to conditions, and a maximum field of 24; if that limit were exceeded, Arc Races winners would have priority. The October draw notice lists 16 declared runners.
