The proposed devices are intended to provide more clinical information and treatment guidance, and to work more closely with ambulance crew technology during patient handovers. The report appeared on a non-official mirror and has no formal publication date, so the target and appeal status should be confirmed with SWAC before treating them as current.
What the reported appeal would fund
The report attributes a £400,000 fundraising target to SWAC, for replacing and upgrading 288 defibrillators. It says the devices are carried by Community First Responders: trained volunteers who provide immediate assistance in their local communities and may reach a patient before an ambulance crew.
The report does not name a selected device, supplier, procurement process or technical specification. It therefore does not establish which capabilities will be included in the replacement equipment.
Why the charity says the equipment needs upgrading
As described in the report, the proposed devices would provide responders with additional clinical information and guidance to help inform treatment. They are also intended to align better with technology used by ambulance crews, supporting patient handovers. These are the rationale attributed to SWAC in the report, not independently demonstrated performance results; no model-level comparison or evidence of faster handovers is provided.

The report also says SWAC cites an approximate 10% decline in survival chances for each minute without CPR and defibrillation. It does not identify the original study or a primary SWAC publication for that statistic, so the figure should be understood as an attributed claim rather than an independently verified estimate.
Who uses the defibrillators
Community First Responders are trained volunteers who provide immediate assistance in their communities. The report quotes Zoe Larter, identified only as being “of the charity,” describing them as volunteers who give their time to help people during critical moments. It also attributes to her the phrase “every second really does count”. The report does not supply a more specific role for Larter, and the quotations have not been independently checked against a primary SWAC release.

How people could support the appeal
The report says SWAC is seeking support from individuals, businesses and community organisations. It suggests fundraising activities including marathons, pub quizzes, raffles and bake sales.
No verified donation page, appeal-status update or current giving route is supplied. Because the report is hosted on a non-official mirror rather than a confirmed SWAC page, check with SWAC directly for current status and an official way to contribute before donating or organising a fundraiser.
