What has Gilchrist said about voting and election administration?
In a March 2, 2026 interview with Votebeat, Gilchrist said voting is reserved for citizens, while describing noncitizen voting as rare and saying election processes should help more eligible voters participate. He said he wanted to increase turnout, preserve Michigan’s authority to administer its elections against federal interference, and maintain safe and secure processes. He also pointed to audits as evidence that Michigan’s elections had withstood scrutiny.
“People having confidence in the voting process means that more people will participate in the voting process,” Gilchrist told Votebeat. He also emphasized protecting Michiganders’ private data from federal surveillance. These are his stated views and priorities; they do not establish how any future policy would be implemented.
Has he taken a position on mail-in voting?
The available campaign platform and Votebeat interview do not record a specific endorsement, opposition or policy proposal from Gilchrist on mail-in voting. His broader comments about voter access and election security should not be treated as an answer to that question.

For current Michigan election information—including registration, ballot requests and ballot tracking—consult the Michigan Department of State’s Elections page. The department lists November 3, 2026, as the next election; deadlines and procedures are separate from a candidate’s platform.
What are his campaign-finance transparency proposals?
Gilchrist’s campaign calls for legislative action to shed light on “dark money.” In a September 24, 2026 report, EUP News described more specific proposals: stronger disclosure rules identifying who funds political messages, faster campaign-finance enforcement in coordination with the state attorney general, and limits on certain leadership PACs.

“So I’m going to push for stronger disclosure rules, so voters can see who’s funding the political messages coming across their TVs, their phones, and their mailboxes, social feeds, and streaming,” Gilchrist said, according to EUP News. He also said: “The rules should be simple. If you break Michigan campaign finance law, there should be meaningful consequences quickly.” These are proposals he says he would pursue, not enacted changes.

Gilchrist’s campaign says he would modernize licensing and vehicle-registration services and protect voter-registration and license-plate information from misuse. In the Votebeat interview, he described bringing services into the 21st century across both in-person and online channels, while protecting Michiganders’ private information. His platform also says he would hold auto-repair companies accountable for consumer harm.

These are campaign priorities, not evidence of performance as Secretary of State. A May 2026 ClickOnDetroit candidate guide identified Gilchrist as a Democratic candidate for the office; candidate and election information can change, so check current official Michigan listings for updates.
