Democratic candidate for Michigan attorney general Eli Savit says he supports reproductive freedom, would challenge unjust utility-rate increases, and wants his office to prepare with election officials for possible threats to voting in 2028. Savit is the serving Washtenaw County Prosecuting Attorney, according to his campaign. His positions are described in candidate responses published October 3, 2026, in a Detroit Free Press voter guide republished by Blue Water Healthy Living; the guide says the responses are in the candidates’ own words, subject to its stated removal rules.

Abortion rights: support for reproductive freedom

Savit’s campaign says his legal work included litigation to overturn Michigan’s former abortion ban and efforts to protect reproductive rights. Reproductive Freedom for All, which announced its endorsement of Savit, also described his prior work as opposing enforcement of the former ban. Those are descriptions from the campaign and the endorsing organization, rather than an independent account of the cases.

Utility rates: challenge increases he considers unjust

In his voter-guide response, Savit says he would challenge utility rate requests before the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC), the state body that handles utility matters. He stated: “I will aggressively challenge unjust utility rate increases before the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC).”

Scrutinize costs passed on to ratepayers

Savit says his office would examine rate hikes and seek to block utilities from passing improper costs to customers, naming executive bonuses and corporate lobbying as examples. The response describes his proposed approach; it does not establish that the MPSC would adopt a particular decision or that every such cost would be excluded from rates.

Commitments on corporate and utility money

In the same response, Savit says he has pledged to refuse corporate PAC contributions and accepted the League of Conservation Voters’ “No Utility Money” challenge. These are commitments stated in his response, not independent verification of his contribution history or proof that a future rate case would have a particular outcome.

Election protection: prepare for possible 2028 scenarios

Savit proposes regular coordination with the Secretary of State, local clerks, law enforcement, and voter-protection groups. He says his office should prepare for possible scenarios including intimidation at polling places, attempts to discard ballots, unconstitutional voting requirements, disinformation, and interference with voter information. He proposes drafting criminal and civil filings in advance. These are contingencies he says officials should plan for, not predictions that any of the listed events will happen.

His response summarizes his position this way: “Our elections must be free, fair and final.”

Other priorities and prosecutorial background

Savit’s campaign issue materials list public safety, rights enforcement, worker protections, consumer protection, constitutional protections, environmental protection, justice, and work with local communities. His campaign biography describes him as Washtenaw County Prosecuting Attorney and recounts civil-rights and public-interest work. These descriptions reflect campaign materials; the voter-guide responses do not establish what policies or results would follow if he became attorney general.
