The roommate reportedly found the device after seeing a blue light in a nightstand on September 12, 2026. Long was later arrested and charged, but the allegations have not been proved in court, and his attorney disputes the police account’s characterization of the incident.
What the roommate reportedly found
According to the arrest report as described by WSVN and Local 10, the roommate noticed a blue light coming from the middle compartment of a bedroom nightstand at an off-campus South Miami residence on September 12, 2026. He reportedly found a camera there.
WSVN’s account of the arrest report says the roommate accessed files on the device. Police reportedly described about 49 video files, some corrupted, including recordings of the roommate in his bedroom without his knowledge or consent. Other videos reportedly showed Long testing the device. These are descriptions in news reports of the police account, not findings made at a trial.
What police say about the unanswered texts
News reports say Long initially denied involvement and later admitted to placing the device in the room. Police reportedly attributed to him the explanation that he wanted to find out whether his roommate was reading his texts. That is a reported explanation, not an independently established motive.

NBC 6’s account of released body-camera video also reports that Long described ongoing arguments with his roommate and said the act was a drunken decision. NBC 6’s page was not accessible for direct review, so those details are best understood as that outlet’s reporting rather than independently verified statements here.
Charges and the response from Long’s attorney
WSVN reported that Long was charged with video voyeurism and burglary of an unoccupied structure. The outlet also reported that a judge found probable cause and set bond at $3,500. A charge and probable-cause finding are early procedural steps; neither establishes guilt.

The Miami Hurricane updated its article on September 30, 2026, to include the attorney’s statement; WSVN’s accessible report is dated September 30. NBC 6’s page surfaced as updated October 1 and its search-result text said a judge ordered Long to stay away from the roommate and that Long entered a written not-guilty plea after bonding out. Because that page could not be opened and no court docket was located, those later procedural details are less directly verifiable. The case’s disposition and any subsequent court activity were unresolved in the available reporting as of October 3, 2026.
