Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 has the higher published CPU clock ceiling, but that alone does not make it the better phone or the better buy. Qualcomm lists a maximum CPU speed of up to 4.74 GHz for Elite Gen 5 and up to 3.8 GHz for Snapdragon 8 Gen 5. The available figures do not establish a universal winner between the two platforms, and they are not a substitute for testing the specific phones you are considering.
How Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 and Elite Gen 5 differ
These are separate Qualcomm platforms; “Elite” is a meaningful distinction, not an alternate name for the standard Snapdragon 8 Gen 5. Qualcomm’s 8-series comparison lists maximum CPU speeds of up to 3.8 GHz for Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 and up to 4.74 GHz for Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.
Those are peak clock specifications, not guaranteed everyday or sustained speeds. Qualcomm notes that maximum speed varies by platform version and device OEM. A phone’s cooling design, power settings, software, and workload affect how it performs in practice.
What Qualcomm’s performance figures do—and do not—show
Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 Product Brief reports improvements of 36% in CPU performance, 11% in GPU performance, and 46% in NPU performance versus Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. These are Qualcomm-reported comparisons against Gen 3, not direct results comparing Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 with Elite Gen 5. They cannot be used to calculate a performance gap between the two Gen 5 chips.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Qualcomm’s brief cautions: “Results will vary, depending on OEM implementation and other factors.” The figures describe Qualcomm’s platform claims; they do not guarantee that every phone using the chip will achieve the same result.
Which chip should you choose?
If you are choosing only between the two chip specifications, Elite Gen 5 has the higher published maximum CPU clock. If you are choosing a phone, compare the complete devices rather than treating the processor name as the verdict.

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Sustained performance: Look for testing of the exact handset under comparable workloads and durations. A peak clock figure does not show how well a phone maintains performance when warm.
- Cooling and battery: Thermal design and power management can shape both sustained speed and battery life.
- Camera and software: Camera hardware, image processing, software support, and the manufacturer’s implementation can matter more to your use than a chip’s peak specification.
- Price and configuration: Compare the actual price, storage, and regional model. A phone with the standard Gen 5 could be the better purchase if the whole device offers more for your needs; that is a buying framework, not a measured result.
A meaningful head-to-head performance judgment would require matched phones and disclosed details such as workload, test duration, software build, ambient conditions, and cooling. The published figures above do not provide that direct comparison.

No. As of October 3, 2026, Qualcomm’s 8-series comparison page lists Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 above the Gen 5 platforms. The Gen 5 comparison is therefore relevant to shoppers considering Gen 5 phones, but it should not be mistaken for a comparison of Qualcomm’s newest listed flagship generation.
