The final decision was still pending; later Kansas coverage reported he appeared for only a few snaps. The available reports do not establish that the warmup was on a Saturday: Missouri was scheduled for Friday, Sept. 11, 2026.
What “going through warmups” meant for Pickett
It was a pregame evaluation, not a clearance or a promise of playing time. A Sept. 9, 2026, report by Saturday Down South, citing ESPN’s Pete Thamel, said Pickett was expected to dress and warm up, with a decision to follow. The report described him as a game-time decision after he missed Kansas’ season opener against LIU.
Those are separate milestones: practicing, taking part in warmups, being declared available, and actually playing. In Pickett’s case, the warmup expectation did not settle the last two.
How Pickett’s status changed
- Sept. 7: KUsports.com reported that Pickett had been dealing with an unspecified injury since late in training camp. Kansas coach Lance Leipold said Pickett was out at practice but “still has a ways to go,” and added that he did not yet have a status for him.
- Sept. 9: Thamel’s report, reproduced by Saturday Down South, described Pickett’s injury as a leg injury and said he was expected to dress and warm up before a decision was made.
- After Missouri: KUsports.com reported Pickett did play, but appeared in only a few plays despite the injury.
- Sept. 19: Pickett was again a game-time decision for Kansas’ game against Arizona State, then did not play, according to KUsports.com. That report said he had totaled six offensive snaps for the season through that game.
What is known about the injury—and what is not
The reports establish that Pickett was injured, and one characterized it as a leg injury. They do not provide a confirmed medical diagnosis, more precise anatomy, or a timetable for returning to full strength. Leipold’s Sept. 7 comments indicate that Pickett had returned to practice, but that he was not yet at a point where the coach could give a definitive status.

Pickett’s 2025 production is context, not a 2026 availability forecast
Pickett recorded 45 receptions for 476 receiving yards and three touchdowns for Kansas in 2025, according to KUsports.com and the Sept. 9 report citing Thamel. Those are last-season totals; they do not indicate whether he would be able to play or how much he could contribute in 2026.
