October 2026’s main climate-policy event is the COP31 Pre-COP ministerial meeting and Leaders’ event, scheduled for 5–8 October in the Pacific. What is the main October climate event?
The 5–8 October COP31 Pre-COP is the month’s central climate-negotiation listing. The UNFCCC describes it as a Pacific gathering ahead of the November summit, with Fiji, Tuvalu and Australia partnering to deliver the official ministerial meeting and Leaders’ event. For policy professionals, it is the key date to follow; for other readers, its focus on Pacific leadership makes it relevant to regional climate action as well as the negotiations.
Which dates are confirmed, and which are still uncertain?
The calendar gives specific dates for the Pre-COP, International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, Education for Climate Day, World Cities Day and World Space Week. The two report entries are different: the Tyndall Centre lists both under October but does not give a day. A month-only listing is not evidence of a confirmed release date, so check each report’s own announcement before treating it as scheduled.

What comes next after October?
COP31 itself is scheduled for 9–20 November 2026 in Antalya, Türkiye. It is not an October conference; the October Pre-COP is the direct lead-in. UNFCCC’s current 2026 Climate Weeks page lists meetings in Yeosu, Republic of Korea, on 21–25 April and Baku, Azerbaijan, on 7–11 September, so it does not support listing an October UNFCCC Climate Week.
