Aaron Nola took the loss in Philadelphia’s 6–2 defeat to Atlanta in Game 3 of the 2026 National League Wild Card Series on October 1. Two first-inning walks set up Michael Harris II’s three-run homer, and Nola was removed in the second after 1 2/3 innings.
Nola’s line and the first-inning turning point
MLB’s official game record credits Nola with 1 2/3 innings, three earned runs and one strikeout; CBS Sports/RotoWire also reports two hits and two walks. Nola threw 38 pitches, 19 for strikes, before leaving the game, according to MLB.com’s recap.
After retiring Drake Baldwin to begin the bottom of the first, Nola walked Ronald Acuña Jr. and Matt Olson. Harris followed with a three-run homer that gave Atlanta a 3–0 lead. MLB Statcast tracked Nola’s pitch as a 93.5 mph sinker and Harris’s hit at 100.5 mph exit velocity, with a 25-degree launch angle and a distance of 386 feet: MLB’s Statcast highlight.
Harris said afterward: “I just found one pitch to put my best swing on, and hopefully, we get some runs out of it — and we did.” Braves manager Walt Weiss praised Nola in MLB’s postgame report: “Nola is great, man. We’ve seen him a ton for many years now. He’s a great pitcher.”

How Atlanta won 6–2
Atlanta added two runs in the fourth on Ozzie Albies’s homer off Zack Wheeler, who had entered in relief, then Olson hit a solo homer in the seventh. Philadelphia scored in the sixth and eighth but did not close the gap. The official MLB game record lists six hits and no errors for each team; Grant Holmes received the win.
Nola was responsible for three earned runs, not all six Atlanta runs. Wheeler allowed Albies’s two-run homer, and Olson’s seventh-inning homer accounted for another Atlanta run.

What the result means
The 6–2 loss ended Philadelphia’s season and sent Atlanta to the National League Division Series. Nola’s early exit came in a win-or-go-home game in which the Phillies expected to use multiple available relievers. The game report establishes what happened that night; it does not by itself establish anything about Nola’s future rotation role, health or longer-term performance.
