Woody Lancaster won the 42nd All New England Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off at the Topsfield Fair with a pumpkin the fair lists at 2,598 pounds. That sets a new Topsfield Fair record, 91 pounds above the previous record reported for Alex Noel in 2025. The sources reviewed establish a fair record, not a world record.
What happened at the 2026 weigh-off?
The weigh-off took place on Friday, October 2, opening day of the 2026 Topsfield Fair. The fair had scheduled the contest for 4 p.m. in the Arena and describes it as an opening-day tradition. Its published results list Lancaster in first place at 2,598 pounds.
The same results list the next two entries at 2,220 pounds and 2,197 pounds. Alistair Lehto received the youth prize for a pumpkin listed at 1,815 pounds. These are the fair’s published 2026 weights and placements.
How big is the new Topsfield Fair record?

Is it a world record?
The available results support calling Lancaster’s pumpkin a Topsfield Fair record. They do not certify a world record. Before the weigh-off, fair general manager James O’Brien told WBUR, “We may end up breaking a fairgrounds record, as well as maybe a world record.” That was a forecast; the result confirmed the fair record only.
How does the result fit the weigh-off’s history?
The fair says its All New England Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off began at Topsfield in 1984, and that entries must weigh at least 300 pounds. The contest’s milestones show how quickly the leading weights have grown:

- Jamie Graham’s 2,480-pound entry won in 2022 and was listed in the fair’s archive as the previous fair record before later results superseded it.
The fair’s history links giant-pumpkin growing to Dill’s Atlantic Giant seeds and the New England Pumpkin Growers Association. The fair FAQ says giant-pumpkin seeds are sold in the Fruit & Vegetable Building; seed choice alone does not guarantee a competition-size pumpkin.
