Bitcoin (BTC) had risen more than 42% from a July 2026 low of about US$58,000 by September 30, according to MoneySense. That is a reported rebound over roughly three months—not a live quote, a gain enjoyed by every buyer, or evidence that the next move will be upward.
What does “up over 40% in three months” mean?
MoneySense published its report on October 2, 2026, using September 30 as the market-data cutoff. Its headline describes BTC’s rise of more than 42% from a July low of about US$58,000 to the end-of-September measurement. The figure is a low-to-cutoff comparison, not necessarily the return for every rolling three-month period. All dollar amounts in the report are U.S. dollars unless otherwise noted.
MoneySense says its BTC return table uses Yahoo Finance BTC-USD price data. The reported figures below are the article’s calculations; they have not been independently recomputed here. Read MoneySense’s October 2, 2026 report.
Are BTC investors making money?
That depends on when they bought. The same report says BTC was down over the one-year window but up over the five-year window ending September 30, 2026. A rebound from a recent low can coexist with a loss for someone who bought at a higher price within the past year.

The absolute-return figures compare prices across each stated window; the annualized figures express the historical result as a yearly rate. They describe past performance through the stated cutoff and are not forecasts or a dependable basis for projecting future returns.
Did Ethereum follow the same pattern?
No. MoneySense reports that Ethereum (ETH) gained 32.2% over six months through September 30, 2026, but lost 35.5% over one year and 10.9% over five years. The contrast with BTC is a reminder that a positive short-window return does not establish positive performance over a longer window—or the reverse.

These are different assets and measurement periods, so the figures should not be treated as like-for-like forecasts or as a complete comparison of crypto investments.
Is IBQT the same as owning Bitcoin?
