Bank of America reportedly raised its Micron revenue and earnings estimates for fiscal 2027 and 2028 after the company’s September 30 results, while keeping a $1,550 price target. The forecast changes come as AI infrastructure demand and customer commitments strengthen Micron’s near-term outlook. But the original Bank of America note was not available for independent verification, and rising memory prices—the “memory tax”—could also pressure data-center spending and demand in price-sensitive markets.
What Bank of America reportedly changed
Invest Daily Pro reported that Bank of America lifted its Micron estimates after Micron released fiscal Q4 and FY2026 results on September 30, 2026. The figures below are attributed to that report, not company guidance; the original Bank of America note was not available for independent verification. They should not be treated as market consensus.
| Fiscal year | Revenue estimate reported by Invest Daily Pro | Earlier estimate | EPS estimate reported by Invest Daily Pro | Earlier estimate |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| FY2027 | $275.4 billion | $230.3 billion | $171.78 | $140.24 |
| FY2028 | $317 billion | $244.1 billion | $197.90 | $145.45 |
The report also says Bank of America reiterated a $1,550 price target and named Micron among its top AI picks. These are reported analyst views, not assured outcomes or a substitute for company guidance. Invest Daily Pro’s account.
Why did Bank of America change its Micron forecast?
The reported revisions reflect a more bullish view of the scale and duration of AI-related demand for memory, alongside Micron’s own outlook and customer commitments. Micron’s September 30 release reported fiscal Q4 2026 revenue of $54.23 billion, GAAP net income of $37.70 billion and non-GAAP diluted EPS of $33.42. For FY2026, it reported revenue of $133.19 billion and non-GAAP diluted EPS of $75.52.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Those are retrospective company results, not the bank’s forecasts. Micron separately guided fiscal Q1 2027 revenue to $61.5 billion, plus or minus $1.5 billion, and non-GAAP diluted EPS to $38.15, plus or minus $1.00. The company said it expects FY2027 to be stronger than FY2026, citing AI-driven demand, execution and strategic customer agreements. Micron’s FY2026 results and Q1 guidance.
Micron’s earnings call offered a measure of demand visibility: CEO Sanjay Mehrotra said more than 75% of fiscal 2027 output was committed, counting strategic customer agreements and other customer commitments. He said customer discussions were already extending into 2028. Those commitments help explain why analysts might model a stronger cycle extending beyond the immediate quarter.

However, a committed share of output is not the same as guaranteed revenue or profit. The figure includes both strategic agreements and other commitments, and contract pricing structures vary. Management also said it could not see when supply and demand would return to balance. Micron’s FY2026 Q4 earnings call.
What is the AI “memory tax”?
“Memory tax” is a metaphor for the financial burden that higher memory prices can place on companies building or operating AI data centers. It is not a formal tax, a measured rate or proof that customers have already reduced spending. In earlier commentary summarized in June, Bank of America analyst Vivek Arya warned that elevated memory prices could weigh on data-center customers’ capital spending and risk destroying demand in price-sensitive markets. That is a downside scenario, not an established result. June coverage of Arya’s comments.

The tension is that higher memory prices can support Micron’s sales and margins while making AI infrastructure more expensive for buyers. If customers absorb the expense, strong demand may persist; if costs force them to delay projects, redesign systems or limit deployments, demand could weaken. Price-sensitive markets may react sooner than the largest AI customers.
How much protection do customer agreements provide?
Micron’s FY2026 Q3 SEC filing describes strategic customer agreements as take-or-pay contracts with binding commitments for specified volumes over multi-year terms. Some agreements use fixed prices or minimum and maximum price bands. A minority have no fixed pricing or bands and remain subject to market conditions. Micron says the agreements increase visibility and stability, but they do not eliminate risks around demand, prices, margins or eventual contract performance. Micron’s FY2026 Q3 filing.

That distinction matters when evaluating long-range forecasts. Volume commitments can make expected shipments more visible, but the economics still depend on the contract’s pricing terms, Micron’s costs and how supply changes over time. More than 75% committed output is a meaningful demand signal, not a guarantee that every unit will earn the same margin.

- Buyer resistance: The memory tax could constrain data-center budgets or reduce demand in markets where customers are more sensitive to price.
- Supply response: Capacity additions could eventually ease shortages, but Micron said it had no line of sight to when supply and demand would rebalance. That uncertainty cuts both ways: it supports a tight-market outlook now but makes the cycle’s duration difficult to pin down.
- Contract economics: Agreements vary in how they set prices, so committed volumes do not translate into a single predictable price or margin.
- Cyclical normalization: Memory is a cyclical business. If supply catches up, demand cools or pricing retreats, earnings could fall from elevated levels even if the long-term role of memory in AI continues to grow.
These risks are especially relevant when forecasts extend into FY2028: a strong near-term outlook does not establish that today’s pricing and earnings conditions will persist throughout those years.

How to read the forecast alongside Micron’s caution
Keep three kinds of numbers separate: Micron’s reported results describe completed periods; its Q1 outlook is company guidance; and the FY2027–FY2028 estimates are figures Invest Daily Pro attributed to Bank of America. The distinction is important because the company itself warns: “These forward-looking statements are subject to a number of risks and uncertainties that could cause actual results to differ materially.” Micron also notes that its non-GAAP measures exclude specified items and may not be comparable with similarly named measures at other companies. Micron’s release.
The bullish case rests on AI-driven demand, substantial customer commitments and management’s expectation of a stronger FY2027. The cautious case is that high memory costs can restrain buyers, supply can eventually respond, and cyclical earnings can normalize. The reported Bank of America revisions express one analyst’s outlook under that uncertainty; they are not company promises or a guarantee that Micron will meet those estimates.
