Reports published on October 3, 2026, said a man identified as Sridhar Panda was injured during a police encounter in Chandaka, Bhubaneswar, and taken to Capital Hospital. The accounts differ over whether he fired at police or tried to attack them with a sharp object, and over which leg was injured. The incident followed a woman’s allegation of rape at her rented home in Nayapalli; guilt and the encounter circumstances have not been established in court.
What the woman alleged and when she complained
Hindustan Times and OdishaBytes reported that a 26-year-old woman said a masked man entered her rented accommodation in the Nayapalli area of Bhubaneswar on Wednesday night, September 30, 2026. She alleged that he threatened her with what she believed was a gun and sexually assaulted her. She filed a complaint at Nayapalli police station on Thursday, October 1.
The allegation is not a court finding. The suspect named in subsequent reports should be regarded as accused, not as having been proven guilty.
