The allegation appeared in an indictment reported by The Jerusalem Post on October 3, 2026; it is not a conviction. The report does not identify his prompts, the AI model or its outputs, or explain how AI affected any assignment.
What prosecutors reportedly allege about AI and ChatGPT
According to The Jerusalem Post’s account of the indictment, prosecutors said Khalaf used AI for some assignments, including consulting ChatGPT. The newspaper did not specify what he asked, what ChatGPT returned, which model he used, or which particular tasks involved AI. The available account therefore does not establish that ChatGPT planned, carried out, or materially advanced any alleged espionage activity.
What the reported indictment says the assignments involved
The newspaper identifies Khalaf, 25, as a resident of Baka al-Gharbiya and a security guard at a youth boarding school. It says prosecutors charged him with contact with a foreign agent.
As described in the report, prosecutors alleged that contact began when Khalaf responded to a courier-work offer posted in a Telegram group for temporary jobs. The account behind the offer first used the name “Thomas” and later “Martin.” The indictment reportedly described cryptocurrency payments, including an alleged $50 Bitcoin transfer intended to gain Khalaf’s trust.
