Blustein had been naturalized in 2019. The Interior Ministry reportedly cited his use of an Israeli passport after naturalization and alleged that he failed to disclose Uruguayan nationality in his application. The reports describe a citizenship revocation—not a visa cancellation—but do not establish a criminal charge, arrest, deportation or court ruling in his case.
Why was his Thai citizenship revoked?
Bangkok Post and Thai Rath report that the Interior Ministry relied on two points: Blustein travelled using an Israeli passport after becoming Thai, and he allegedly did not disclose that he also held Uruguayan nationality when applying for naturalization. These are the ministry’s reported grounds, not findings independently established by a court. The news accounts paraphrase the ministry’s reasoning; they do not provide a response from Blustein or a statement directly attributable to him. (Bangkok Post; Thai Rath)
What did the Israeli passport have to do with it?
According to the ministry’s account as reported by Thai outlets, Blustein travelled to Hong Kong on 14 June 2019 using an Israeli passport—the date his first Thai identity card was issued—and returned to Thailand on 23 June using that passport. Reports say officials treated this travel after naturalization as one of the grounds for revocation. The available accounts do not establish a separate finding about the legal effect of that travel.
What is the connection to Uruguay?
The ministry reportedly said Blustein held Uruguayan nationality, had used a Uruguayan passport for overseas travel and had not disclosed that nationality in his naturalization application. That is an allegation and part of the ministry’s stated rationale; it should not be read as an adjudicated finding. The reports do not include Blustein’s account of the application or the alleged nondisclosure.

When did the naturalization and revocation happen?
| Date | Reported event |
|---|---|
| 3 April 2019 | Blustein’s naturalization notice reportedly appeared in the Royal Gazette. |
| 14 June 2019 | His first Thai identity card was reportedly issued; officials say he travelled to Hong Kong using an Israeli passport that day. |
| 23 June 2019 | He reportedly returned to Thailand using the Israeli passport. |
| 1 October 2026 | Anutin Charnvirakul reportedly signed the revocation order in his capacity as interior minister. |
The reported Gazette notice and order dates are about seven and a half years apart. Some coverage described the story as occurring “six years after naturalization,” but that is not an exact interval calculated from those dates. The Jerusalem Post uses the spelling “Ariel Blushstein”; Bangkok Post and Thai Rath use “Ariel Blustein.” The Royal Gazette entry would be needed to confirm the authoritative spelling. (The Jerusalem Post)
Was this a visa cancellation, arrest or deportation?
No. The reports describe an order revoking Thai citizenship. They do not establish that Blustein’s visa was cancelled, that he was arrested or deported, or that criminal charges were filed. Nor do they report a court judgment in his case.

What legal basis did reports cite?
Thai Rath reports that the ministry cited Section 19, paragraph one, of Thailand’s Nationality Act B.E. 2508 (1965), and says Blustein was naturalized under Sections 10 and 11(1). Bangkok Post also describes the order as based on nondisclosure and use of a former nationality. The individual order and a current consolidated official version of the Act are not available in the cited coverage, so the reported section number should be treated as an attribution to Thai Rath rather than an independently verified interpretation of the law.
A 2024 Constitutional Court ruling summary discusses revocation provisions in Sections 17 and 18, inquiry procedures and access to a competent court. It distinguishes nationality acquired by birth from nationality acquired through other routes. That summary offers general legal context; it does not decide Blustein’s case or establish how the reported Section 19 citation applies to his order. (Constitutional Court of Thailand)

Can he challenge the order?
The Constitutional Court’s 2024 summary says that certain revocation processes discussed in its ruling require an inquiry and that affected individuals may bring a case before a competent court. It does not say that Blustein has challenged this order, and no challenge or court decision in his case is reported. The summary is not a substitute for the text of the 2026 order or a current consolidated statute.

Thailand’s Public Relations Department reported on 15 September 2026 that deputy interior ministers had ordered a review of citizenship application procedures after investigations uncovered cases involving alleged nominee arrangements. That establishes broader scrutiny of application procedures, but the available reporting does not show that this review caused or specifically targeted the decision involving Blustein.
