Movavi Video Editor’s version 27, announced September 29, 2026, introduces a modular workflow built around Templates and Blocks. A Template is a ready-made video arrangement with elements such as music, transitions, and text; Blocks are the short, pre-edited segments you can customize, rearrange, or add. You can start with a complete Template or build a video from Blocks. These are Movavi’s descriptions of the feature, not independent performance findings. Movavi’s version 27 announcement describes the release.
How do Movavi Templates and Blocks work?
A Template supplies an overall arrangement and built-in creative elements. Movavi describes Templates for projects such as vlogs, business promotions, and family videos. You can use the arrangement as supplied or adapt it by changing its Blocks.
A Block is a short, pre-edited video segment. Movavi’s examples include intros, countdowns, quick cuts, and animated collages. The idea is to replace the Block’s supplied video, photo, or text content with your own while keeping the segment as part of the larger edit.
That makes the two terms distinct: the Template is a starting structure; Blocks are editable segments within that structure, or building pieces you can use on their own.

Can you rearrange or add Blocks?
Yes. Movavi says you can move Blocks, add more, customize their contents, or place Blocks between existing clips. You can also assemble a full video Block by Block rather than begin with a complete Template.
- Choose a starting point. Select a Template if you want a pre-arranged video, or begin with your existing clips or Blocks.
- Adjust the structure. Keep the supplied sequence, rearrange Blocks, or insert Blocks between clips.
- Personalize the segments. Replace the supplied video, photo, and text content with your own.
- Review the complete edit. Check that the transitions, music, text, and sequence work for your project before exporting.
Movavi presents this as a flexible editing workflow; its release information does not establish that it saves a particular amount of time or produces a specific level of output quality.

Which approach should you use: a Template or Blocks?

Neither route is established as faster or better. Pick a Template when its starting arrangement suits the project; use Blocks when you want to shape the sequence more directly.
What version do you need?
Movavi’s version 27 announcement is dated September 29, 2026. The Mac Video Editor release notes carry the same Templates and Blocks description and advise users to install the latest version. If you do not see the feature, update the editor and check Help → About to confirm the installed version. Movavi’s cited release pages do not give a complete platform-by-platform compatibility matrix or establish identical availability across every edition. Mac Video Editor release notes

Do Templates require a separate subscription?
Templates access is separate from both the editor license and the Effects subscription. Movavi’s account guide lists Templates as its own product and subscription under the account’s purchase area, where you can check the term and manage it. Purchases made through the App Store or other listed app stores may instead need to be managed through the store where you bought them. Movavi’s purchase and license guide

Why might a Template add a watermark at export?
Activating the editor does not necessarily unlock separately licensed paid assets. Movavi says paid Templates or Blocks may result in a “Movavi Template” watermark or export restrictions if the Templates subscription has ended. Can you use videos made with Templates commercially?
That depends on the software license and the project. Movavi distinguishes personal and business licenses: its guidance places client work, services, advertising, and business or branded videos under a business license rather than personal use. The End User License Agreement also says monetized videos on YouTube or similar services do not breach the agreement under a personal license if the video description says it was made using Movavi and includes a link to Movavi.
