In the Van is an announced indie survival simulation from Cosmic Tofu built around a simple premise: your van is both your transport and your home in a zombie-overrun world. Steam lists the game as unreleased, with its release date still “To be announced” as of October 3, 2026.
What is In the Van?
In the Van is a post-apocalyptic survival game in development from Cosmic Tofu, which Steam identifies as both developer and publisher. The storefront describes it as “A cozy post-apocalyptic survival game where your van is your home and your key to survival.” It is categorized as Indie and Simulation on Steam.
The van is more than a way to travel: it is presented as the player’s only home and a mobile base to improve with storage and other upgrades. That setup gives the game’s survival premise a domestic counterpoint—keeping a place livable while deciding when and where to venture out. GamesRadar+ described the van as a customizable mobile cabin and framed the intended pace around balancing exploration, crafting, and survival. Those are descriptions of the announced concept, not a report based on a released build.

The store’s short description sums up the mystery: “Scavenge, craft, and uncover the stories the dead left behind to find a way out.” Steam also shows user-defined tags such as Survival, Sandbox, Base Building, Crafting, Zombies, Open World, Co-op, and Story Rich. Tags are community descriptors, not confirmation that every tagged feature will be in the finished game.
Is In the Van released, and is there a demo?
No. Steam lists the release date as “To be announced” and says the game is not yet available. The page offers a wishlist option, but it does not establish a launch date, price, or demo release. Community posts ask about a demo, but those questions do not confirm that one exists or is planned. Check the Steam store page for availability updates and the Steam Community page for discussion.

What platforms and features are listed?
The Steam page lists Windows system requirements and includes single-player and multi-player in its feature row. A Community discussion also asks whether multiplayer is planned, so the store label alone does not clarify its scope or implementation. Treat multiplayer details as unconfirmed until the developer provides more information. Community questions about controller support likewise do not confirm that it is available or planned.
The language table displayed on Steam lists interface and subtitles in English, French, German, Spanish (Spain), Japanese, Korean, Russian, Simplified Chinese, Spanish (Latin America), Turkish, Brazilian Portuguese, Polish, Traditional Chinese, and Ukrainian. The table lists no full-audio language support. Localization plans can change during development.

Steam’s system-requirements section currently gives these minimums for Windows. The listing explicitly says requirements may change during development; these figures are not a performance test or a guarantee of final requirements.

What is the tone and content?
The concept pairs cozy homekeeping with zombie survival. Steam’s developer-provided content notice says the game depicts violence, blood, and zombie enemies in pixel art, described as not highly graphic or gory. It also says there is no sexual content. This notice is not a formal age rating.

That combination is the game’s clearest distinguishing idea so far: a mobile home, chores, and gradual upgrades sit alongside scavenging, danger, and a mystery told through recovered devices. How those parts feel in play remains to be seen because the game is not yet available.
